Book Synopsis

She's the only girl he's ever loved.

Zowen Archer has been in love with Aston Wheeler for as long as he can remember.

She's perfect, except for the glaring fact that she fell in love with his best friend instead of him. For years, he loved her from afar with zero expectation. He told himself that as long as Aston was happy, his feelings for her didn't matter.

However, Aston isn't nearly as happy as she seems. And by the time Zowen figures things out, his life takes a drastic turn for the worse.

Now that Aston is single and laser-focused on making up for the lost time between the two of them, Zowen is doing everything in his power to avoid her. He's convinced that if she never wanted him when he was at his very best, there is no chance in hell she could care about him now that he's at his absolute worst.

He's the only boy she's willing to wait for.

Time has never been on Aston Wheeler's side.

She spent too long pretending to be someone she was not. She lost herself in a first love that everyone, except her, thought was perfect. She wasted a lot of time trying to convince herself that she should be happy when she was anything but. She watched for years as the one person who made her feel like her true self drifted further and further away.

Finally, when she's ready to reach out and grab the one-of-a-kind love that Zowen Archer has always silently promised her, it's too late. Zowen is taken away, and when he reappears in her life, he makes it clear there's no going back to whatever they might have been.

Good thing for Zowen that Aston is patient and doesn't mind waiting for him to have a change of heart. It's the least she can do after all the time he spent waiting for her.

  • I’m in love with Zowen!!

It’s always bittersweet when such a good book series comes to an end and this is one of those times, I fell in love with the Marked Men Series and the Saints of Denver series, it was one of the most fun experiences I’ve had reading. The next-gen books were just as fun to dive just into, especially Wayward Son. Out of all Jay's books this one for sure is going to stay with me for a while, even now I can't help but think about it. I absolutely love Zowen and Aston, their story was so much fun to read. Zowen went through a dark time where he believed that he was a bad guy and even gave up the thing he loved, he’s become of of my favorite Archers and there’s something about him that I will hold in my heart as cheesy as it sounds. Aston was such an interesting character, she’s lovely and sweet and I love that she made sure that Zowen wasn’t alone. Though at times I couldn't help but relate to her in some ways. I loved seeing her relationship with her older brother, Royce. They had fun bantered and the two of them were there to hear each other out, I love that Aston was also there for her brother when his world was falling apart. Besides that, the way the two of them fell in love was a bit quick but when the right person has been in front of you for a long time, then it’s like riding a bike. The two of them were star-cross lovers, in a way. I love, love this book. Honestly, it might be my favorite one yet, it was such a fun time and I didn’t want to end. I also loved seeing the rest of the Marked and Saints gang. It’s so fun to see how they are doing, even though they went through a hard time. I love the found family trope and Jay does it beautifully. I know that it’s the end of this series but there are a couple of characters that I would love to see get their books, especially Royce and Cassio - oh there’s a story there and I love nothing more than to read it! As well, Hayes, he’s an interesting lawyer. Another character that I would love to see get their own book is Joss, Zeb’s niece. I know it’s a bit random but she was such a hoot in Built, I love love to see her get her book. It was such a beautiful experience and I hope to see more of the side characters. It was a five-star read in my opinion and Zowen and Aston are such a great couple and beautiful characters in my opinion. Happy Readings!

Oh my, the angst and much anticipated second chance romance story of Zowen and Aston in Wayward Son by Jay Crownover is everything readers have been longing for. This opposites attract, forced proximity will bring about turning points in adulting. Readers will find that the themes of self discovery, forgiveness, and gritty acceptance are what make these characters relatable. And when the two childhood friends embark on a reunion after several years, they explore new paths as new people, both apart and together. “All I could think, all I could feel, was, Mine. I wanted—no, needed—Aston Wheeler to belong to me.” Jay Crownover’s final book of the Forever Marked series, Wayward Son, was a perfect conclusion to the next generation of Marked Men Archer dynasty. I found this opposites attract, second chance romance to be engaging with all the feels and perfect happily ever afters. Also, getting to read about some of the OG characters was a nice bonus. If you enjoy relatable characters with robust storylines, then I highly recommend the Forever Marked series.
