Book Synopsis

From the New York Times bestselling author of the Marked Men books comes the second installment in the Saints of Denver series featuring a bad girl and a by the book attorney who could be her salvation...or her ruin.

Avett Walker and Quaid Jackson’s worlds have no reason to collide. Ever. Quaid is a high powered criminal attorney as slick as he is handsome. Avett is a pink-haired troublemaker with a bad attitude and a history of picking the wrong men.

When Avett lands in a sea of hot water because of one terrible mistake, the only person who can get her out of it is the insanely sexy lawyer. The last thing on earth she wants to do is rely on the no-nonsense attorney who thinks of her as nothing more than a nuisance. He literally has her fate in his hands. Yet there is something about him that makes her want to convince him to loosen his tie and have a little fun…with her.

Quaid never takes on clients like the impulsive young woman with a Technicolor dye job. She could stand to learn a hard lesson or two, but something about her guileless hazel eyes intrigues him. Still, he’s determined to keep their relationship strictly business. But doing so is becoming more impossible with each day he spends with her.

As they work side-by-side, they’ll have to figure out a way to get along and keep their hands off each other—because the chemistry between them is beyond charged.

When I was first introduced to Avett in Asa, I wasn't her hugest fan. This girl had parents who adored her, yet she was determined to blow her life to pieces. Charged changed my opinion of her drastically. What I discovered was a young woman mired in guilt and self-doubt who was trying find her way. I am now firmly 100% on Team Avett. Quaid was another character I wasn't sure I would be able to like. In Built, he presented himself as an attractive but cold man. This book proved otherwise. He surrounded himself with the finest things, but seemed to eschew personal connection other than an occasional hookup. This is a 5 star read that I will recommend to anyone, whether it's the first time you are reading a Crownover book or the thirteenth time.

Amazing! I loved Avett and Quaid together and was really looking forward to reading their story. Jay Crownover does such a great job hooking in the reader...I could not put this book down, but then I didn't want to finish it. I thought the characters were well written. I could feel their emotions, and loved their dialog. I too have had some decisions make good stories...but none as good as Avett's!(grin).

This is one of my favorite authors. When she puts a book out I willingly hand over all my trust to her that I will like it even if I'm not one hundred percent sure. She never lets me down and Charged is not different. I didn't really like Avett as a character so I wasn't sure I would love a story about her. Yet again though Jay Crownover didn't steer me wrong. This book is absolutely amazing. I ended up falling in love with the story and with Avett and Quiad. This book is so great and I can't recommend it enough.

I love Jay Crownover, her books are all really great. This book so far in this series is my favorite. Quaid and Yvetts story was absolutely so far my favorite in this new series. Don't get me wrong I love them all but this story was just touching, a lot sexy, and a little suspenseful. It was just full of passion that just poured out of the pages. It was wonderful to read as Quaid and Yvette found her place in life and each other. It just a must read can be read alone but I recommend reading all her books, Marked Men and The Saints of Denver Series, it's nice to read about past characters in the newest series. It really ties them together and glimpses of how the previous characters helped in each new series characters lives. I promise you well not be disappoint with, Charged. Thanks Jay for another great novel and I can not wait for the next book.
  • Jay Crownover’s best work yet!

I truly love Jay Crownover’s writing. She’s as adept at writing about tortured heroes trying to remain on the right side of good as she is about tortured anti-heroes who don’t. Her writing is so layered and dimensional, it paints a picture of life in Colorado and dives deeply into the character’s lives, making them seem real. I was riveted to the story from the very first page, and by that I mean the dedication. The story hadn’t even started yet, and I was already invested. Both the dedication and introduction set the tone for the book. They make you feel like it is drawing you into the author’s personal memories and experiences, at times feeling like an auto-biography of sorts. Avett Walker is described as wild and sweet and that exactly what she is. She’s a force to be reckoned with and is set on making bad decisions in her life. One of those decisions leads her to Quaid Jackson. Quaid is a man who is tired of putting on appearances, living behind an armor, and doing the right thing. Avett barrels her way into his life and his thoughts and he can’t get enough. They were like oil and water, but they mixed together in such an explosive way. I couldn’t get enough of them. As much as I loved Avett and Quaid, my favorite part of Charged had to be Avett’s relationship with her dad. He loves her so fiercely, it brought tears to my eyes at one point. Like Brite, my dad is taciturn, but you know when he is disappointed and you also know when he is going to fight for you. Avett’s relationship with her dad is similar to my own, so I felt an immediate connection to her. Brite may be big and gruff, but he’s so loving and supportive, I couldn’t help but love him. I’ve read and loved many of Jay Crownover’s books, but I honestly believe this is her best yet. Charged feels like it’s deeply personal to the author--like she just opened her heart and poured it out onto the page. I highly recommend this book. And this series. Ok, just read all of her books, she’s that good!

Charged is the second book in the Saints of Denver series and I'm absolutely loving this series! I haven't read the Marked Men Series, so I didn't know Avett before Charged (except for her short appearance in Built). She's a mouthy thing who seems to find trouble wherever she goes. She follows the wrong men and makes incredibly bad choices. This last one was bad enough to land her in jail with the possibility of not getting out. When a stranger shows up to represent her, she can't help notice how sexy he is. But she doesn’t want someone paying for her. She's ready to suffer the consequences of her actions. She doesn't think she deserves to be forgiven. Quaid can't stop thinking about the pink haired hurricane who he's trying to keep out of jail. She's a breath of fresh air and unlike every other woman he's ever met. She's not impressed by his wealth, his material possessions or his fine three piece suits. Don't get me wrong, she loves the suits, but she really wants to see the casual Quaid. When they get the opportunity to spend some time alone, she gets to see more than just the casual executive. She gets to see where he comes from. Inside his soul. Inside his heart. Quaid has been running since he was eighteen. He ran into the military and then to law school. He wanted to make something of himself and prove to his family and himself that he could have everything. House, car, money, clothes, anything and everything. But it doesn't feel right anymore. Not since he met Avett. She's changed him and made him want to be a better man. He's on the wrong side of the law and he doesn't want to do it anymore. When Avett is in danger, Quaid will do anything to keep her safe. Once he gets a taste of her and a glimpse of her soul, he's not letting her go. He'll fight for her no matter what it takes. Will Quaid and Avett be able to make it work? Will the danger be too much for them? I loved this story. Quaid is smokin' hot. Those suits! That tattoo. I can't even. Avett is young and made mistakes, but she's trying to make it right. This story is all about showing those you love who you really are and trusting that they will still be there for you. His words kissed me as his eyes devoured me. Even though zero parts of us were touching. I could feel him all over, including deep down inside of me. "I guess at the end of the day it's better to have nothing with the right person than to have everything with the wrong person, isn't it?" "My mountains are still standing after my hurricane blew through them."

Review below…don’t spoil yourself… That opening; shivering, orange jumpsuit, interview room with the Legal Eagle. Avett Walker knows how to make an entrance and make a lasting impression. I haven’t felt so emotional tied to a character in such a long time. Avett knows the mistakes she’s made and it took one nasty fall for her to snap into action about making the right choices, while still being all that is Avett. When we got two snapshots of Quaid and Avett in Built I was 100% convinced that Avett was a firecracker and that Quaid had a hard shell that couldn’t be broken. But, lords, I couldn’t’ have been more wrong. Quaid “Legal Eagle” Jackson owns up to the name and more as he swoops in and recues Avett from sure-fire regret and a sentence of aggravated robbery that no big-hearted girl could come back from sane. But more so, he helps Avett realize that not only is she more than what she’s done and what’s happened to her. She’s distractingly kind and caring; would do anything to protect those she loves from being touched by the ripples her actions cause. She may be kind hearted but she is a force to be reckoned with when it comes to shielding her loved ones. #THATJUMP Don’t SCARE ME like that. Cannot wait for more of THE SAINTS OF DENVER!
