Having read the prequel, Rise of the Red Shadow, I was excited to get on with the saga. Many authors in this genre focus on the action aspect of their stories with emphasis on battles, violence, and hard core evil. In Rise of the Red Shadow I got to experience Lallo's keen sense of character development. This volume had very little to contribute. The denouement of an epic has got to be the hardest part. We have already surmised the outcome from the title and wicked intellect along with clever surprise twists are all that is left. Unfortunately there was very little craft displayed here and it combined with lax proofreading to give this "final" episode a cheap feel. All we got was one impossible battle after the other and a couple of well telegraphed "surprise" appearances. Action is not this author's forte and the overuse of pronouns makes it hard to follow what is going on. There are any number of shes to whom the text refers and dropped articles and misspellings make it all the more confusing. In the final analysis there is not much development of the relationship between the main heroine and the two dimensional title character and not much made of loss of Myn. Perhaps there is more to come. I still have a fondness for these stories and they hold my interest well. I'll continue to read this author and hope that the depth of the Red Shadow will return.

An enjoyable read and action packed to keep your attention. Could you some more coherent flow vs being very scattered. Character personalities can be frustrating at times but that is the sign of good writing if it draws an emotion from the reader. For the cost of free for book one and $3 for book two it is easy recommendation. I will definitely read book 3 as I'm fully engaged in the story. Always good to support new authors. Hope others enjoy
  • Good, bit dragging, but good.

Editing would help the story. Besides that, it is good, it just drags on some times. It's a bit predictable in that if you read scifi, many elements will be familiar. Still a good read, not ground breaking in any way, but better than watching a movie.

The story is enticing and exhilarating. The author leaves little to be desired, minus a change in a few grammatical errors that occurred during encoding, or the like. For those of you that have read the first book of the series, you will not be disappointed in the least with this installment.

I have read The Book of Deacon, just finished The Great Convergence and am about to dive head first into The Battle of Verril! I have really enjoyed this series so far. It does tend to get a bit complex at times, but reading through the sentence or sentences once more usually brings clarity. What an adventure! Lain is my favorite character...Myranda was starting to become an annoyance, and Ether was just....well, not nice! Personally, i think that shows the work of a great writer! The personalities are clear and easily identifiable! On to the Battle!!!

The read is exceptional. Do not let the reviews of bad editing turn you away, the author weaves a tale to be lost in. The only reason to avoid this book is to not lose hours of your life entranced in the story.
