Tom’s Dad was not an athletic role model. In grade school Tom’s playground sport was sock ball. He still remembers playing center field and missing an easy catch. His only thought at the plate was to get to first base on a walk. High school football lasted two days and he dreaded the windsprints. He wasn’t fast or coordinated or skilled. He couldn’t throw a spiral football pass, he couldn’t get the basketball in the hoop, and he didn’t like blocking and tackling and slamming to the hockey boards. No wonder his motivations led him in other extra curricular pursuits.
