It’s dark, twisted, and perfect. Possibly one of the darkest romances I have read and I AM HERE for it! I have already preordered the next book. I knew this series wouldn’t disappoint because Pam just has a way with words….
  • A hard read, but I’m invested in this story & it’s characters

I finished Hills of Shivers and Shadows a little over half an hour ago and I’m still processing it after I talked about with someone else and also with myself — yes, I talk to myself, I am not ashamed, it comes in handy at times, especially like right now when I feel a lot and I couldn’t all possibly put it down on paper because it’s just too much. Also when I don’t really know how I feel and I need my mouth and mind to take me wherever I need to go and thinking about writing what to say can slow me and my thought processes down. I’m not still not completely sure what all to say here, but I just know that I’m a little sad… okay, maybe I’m lowkey devastated and want to have another cry. I know I’m being a bummer, but you all, this book is a hard read and I’m not a stranger to reading a hard Pam Godwin book, alright? I’ve read Knotted and the prologue of Complicate and was gutted, so when I read the Author’s Note and Pam Godwin tried to warn that this was perhaps darker and heavier than her previous books, I wasn’t that concerned about the level of darkness. I was nervous about the angst mentioned in the tropes section and that it was a trilogy, but that was mostly it. Hills of Shivers and Shadows was everything it was promised to be and even though it left me crying and with a lot of feelings, I don’t regret reading it. I can’t necessarily say I loved it, but it did affect me deeply and I want to continue on with this series. I can’t say much about Hills of Shiver and Shadows without spoiling it, but I can say to heed the Author’s Note at the beginning and know that it is dark and heavy and tragic and angsty and it’s going to infuriate you, horrify you, and disgust you and break your heart and punch you in the gut. However, while it’s doing all of that, you’re also going to watch characters change and grow and become close and become a strong family filled with determination, love, sacrifice, and an unbreakable bond. It’s difficult but it’s also beautiful and you’re going to root so hard for Frankie, Leo, Kody, and Wolf and you’re going to want to know what happens next and wish with everything you have that they get what they want and find peace. At least, that’s how I felt and how I feel and yeah, I’m sad and want to cry again from writing all of that, but I’m going to go through with this to the end because I want to see these characters get their HEA — I need to because I love them so much and they wholeheartedly deserve all of that and more.

Pam Godwin is a master of dark romance. I sat on the edge of my chair from the prolog until the final word. Frankie is a complicated woman who is faced with insurmountable obstacles. She is stronger than I know I would be in her situation. She is determined beyond measure to get her life back. The men in this one are so varied in personality but what they share is an attraction for Frankie. I couldn’t tear myself away but was anticipating what was coming next.

Wow just wow! Pam Godwin has blown me away and left me hanging! Hills of Shivers and Shadows is wonderfully twisted and has so many OMG moments. This book will grab you from the very beginning and not let you go. It’s so well written, I could barely put it down. It’s by far the Best dark trope I have read in quite a while. Some of the characters begin as so easy to hate, but slowly…yes slowly, become characters you will love. The entire read was so captivating and the OMG twist at the end leaves you begging for the next book!!! Can’t wait to get the next book!

Thrilling, gripping, and sexy. This author always brings the intensity and darkness to her stories, which I love, and this story is no exception. I loved the feisty trauma nurse Frankie. She’s everything you want in a heroine. Smart, resilient, capable and a spitfire. And she needs everything she has when faced with the evil Denver and his nefarious plans for her and his sons Leo, Kody and Wolf. This story pulled me in right from the beginning with the intrigue, mystery and brutality as Frankie fights against the her circumstances. Of course, you’ve gotta love the sons Leo, Kody and Wolf. With all the sparks between the petite nurse and the hunky Alaskan men it’s not long before the romance hits. So hot! There are several heartbreaks along the way and intensely cringeworthy moments and an ending that crushed me. I can’t wait for the next part to see how the group overcomes their deadly situation. Absolutely outstanding in every way!
  • The start of a mind blowing journey!

Frankie’s life changed drastically one day…not once, but twice. In extreme ways. And that’s just the start of her very new and harrowing journey. It’s mind bendingly intense, between the atmosphere outdoor & inside. There are secrets and past traumas, and holy cannoli moments. Frankie is an unbelievable pilar of strength & perseverance, doing what she can to survive. It’s edgy, scary, gripping, and something that will stay with you. Mind the triggers-check them if you have issues with reading certain things. And be ready for the first part of an unbelievable journey…

Oh how I have missed Pam Godwin. It felt like forever since I'd read one of her novels and I'm so happy to have gotten my hands on this one. She always takes me out of my comfort zone and I love her for that. This is a story that expertly blends thriller with romance to produce a beautifully crafted novel that is filled with darkness, tension, humor, suspense, and twists that'll make your head spin. There were so many moments that literally had me at the edge of my seat. Two major highlights for me were the scenery and the characters. Pam Godwin's writing completely transported me to the Alaskan wilderness. I really felt like I was really there with Frankie and I love how the location was so integral to the story. I always love a Pam Godwin FMC and Frankie was no different. She was the perfect blend of tough and vulnerable which made her feel so real and human. The whole cast of characters are all so complex that I was invested in all of their stories. I don't want to spoil anything so I'm purposely keeping this review vague, but be warned that this book is quite dark and there are TW's listed. However, I do believe for this book it’s best to just jump in blind and enjoy the ride! I could not put this book down and I am dying to get my hands on the next one.

Yes please, I need more!! Definitely Pam Godwin dark and I loved it! Frankie is abducted and brought to a remote place in Alaska….where there’s 4 men…I’d call it a slow burn but spicy for sure. It kept me hooked and there’s a cliffhanger! Book 2 comes out next month though, April 2024. Highly recommend if you like dark romance!

Wowza! I finished this book last night and the intensity still has me reeling. Absolutely amazing! The details were so vivid I felt like I was watching a movie instead of reading a book. Pam always does a fantastic job weaving magic with her words. Definitely need the next two books with a quickness because I am addicted to these characters. Frankie is a force to be reckoned with and I love her! Can’t wait for the next two! If they’re anything like the first I’m sure they’ll be some of the best books I’ve ever read in my life.
  • Need book 2 NOW!

WHAT?!? okay I gotta collect my thoughts on this because WHAT!!! I could not put this book down. When I wasn’t reading it was all I could think about. I beg you, go in blind. You will have a bunch of questions like I did but you will get your answers. This is a slow burn and let me tell you, Ms. Godwin isn’t playing with that I was going nuts! I cannot wait for book two to come out. I will strike a devils bargain for that bad boy! I loved this book and ate every single piece of it up! The cover makes sense at the end!
