- "The Remains of the Day" is a novel by British author Kazuo Ishiguro, published in 1989. The story is narrated by Stevens, an English butler who has dedicated his life to the service of Lord Darlington, a British Aristocrat. The novel is set in the late 1950s but also uses flashbacks to explore events from the 1920s and 1930s.
