The ending felt rushed. I enjoyed the trilogy for what it was but I felt like the book was grasping for straws to make a triumphant conclusion. That said great character development.

If you’re like me you’ve probably searched a million different things along the lines of “best fantasy series” or “high rated fantasy”. It can be hard trying to find something that you think you’ll like and easy to nitpick between book reviews. All I gotta say is is to just start this series. Usually sequels never live up to the original whether it be a book or a movie, however Mark Lawrence really seemed to get more comfortable expressing is inner (possibly even dark) thoughts as the books progressed. Above all, I truly enjoyed the ending and didn’t feel as though I had just wasted months of my life as some Game of Thrones watchers may feel. As my first trilogy back after hating to read in high school, I’m glad I made it through this one.

Dear Mark Lawrence, I have read all of those and those about Nona. Stop making me care about characters and then finishing the series. Like, how inconsiderate! Anyway, 10/10, read all three books in 5 days.

One of the best series I’ve read, period. Joins Erikson, Martin, Herbert, and Cook on my shelf for re-reading.
  • Dark and glorious

This series is intentionally conflicted and dark. It definitely should not be read by kids. It’s vile enough at times that it probably shouldn’t be read by anyone. The corruption permeating the story and the hero are disturbing but resonate. The truth of a hero that is doing it all to feed his own appetite for revenge and glory is a story not often told and never told this well.

What an incredible story. Written by a truly talented author who isn’t afraid to give the world a hero who is as flawed, dark, yet real human being. Thank you for loving your characters and readers enough to give your work the end it deserved where so many others have failed. I can’t say enough good things about this series, so I won’t keep trying.

  • Challenging Epic Fantasy

This story was a beautifully written fantasy, in a dystopian, magical Middle Age world about a coming of age antihero. The challenging part was keeping tract of the flow of the story as it went back and forth in time. Yet each sequence gave insight to the progression of events. A little grim for young readers so recommended for adult readers.
