"The Crisis" magazine was founded in 1910 by W.E.B. Du Bois, Oswald Garrison Villard, J. Max Barber, Charles Edward Russell, Kelly Miller, W.S. Braithwaite and M.D. Maclean. In his debut editorial, Du Bois proclaimed the intentions behind this forward thinking magazine: "The object of this publication is to set forth those facts and arguments which show the danger of race prejudice, particularly as manifested today toward colored people." Peruse through this volume to meet some of the "talented tenth" that Du Bois spoke about and read articles on important issues such as social uplift, education for blacks and African American art and culture.
