Book Synopsis

This is the book that introduced me to poetry back in the 60's. It is a text book and contains footnotes with definitions, which I find helpful now that I am sharing it with my own children. But unlike so many "Lit Books" seen lugged around on campus today, this is a small less intimidating book. How so many classics can fit into so small a book amazes me. But my favorites are the ones my father read to me and an auditoreum full of students one school day when the intended speaker failed to show. He walked to the podium and after a brief explanation read two poems, The Cremation Of Sam McGee and then, Pershing At The Front. The house was so spellbound we heard each whispered line of Pershing At The Front. If you think this is a book you might want to purchase, since it is out of print, and since it must be purchased second hand, if such things are important to you, inquire about whether it smells of cigarettes? My copy has had to spend some time outside on the porch to air out.
