El Popol Vuh que hoy conocemos fue escrito tras la Conquista en lengua quiché con grafía castellana por indígenas cristianizados. El quiché proviene del maya que se hablaba durante el llamado Periodo PostClásico (c 900 d.C-1492) con influencias toltecas.
