Book Synopsis

Some fates are harder to avoid than others.

When your family legacy comes with a body count and a curse that turned Grandma into a lawn ornament, "normal" was never in the cards.

Lexi Balefire's witch ancestors were once revered as Keepers of the Balefire Flame—until a legendary feud pitted her mother against her grandmother. Their magical battle destroyed more than each other; it reduced the Balefire name to a punchline and left her in charge of a dying hearth.

The problem? Lexi's never unlocked more than a whisper of her power—just enough to craft unbreakable happily-ever-afters for her matchmaking clients, but not much else. When it comes to the Balefire, her three well-meaning but troublesome faerie godmothers do all the heavy lifting.

It's a good thing Lexi's got a closet full of designer boots and a magical knack for creating romance out of thin air, because her own love life? Total dumpster fire.

That is, until she meets Kin Clark—a charismatic musician whose smile could melt steel and whose touch makes her believe that maybe, just maybe, a wicked Balefire witch deserves her own fairy tale ending. With Kin in her life, Lexi's almost willing to let her looming Awakening deadline slip past, surrender her dwindling magic, and watch the ancestral fireplace grow cold.

But only almost.

When her former BFF turned arch-nemesis Serena Snodgrass starts dropping hints about buried secrets in the Balefire family saga—and a supposedly unbreakable client match shatters overnight—Lexi's search for her missing legacy kicks into overdrive. As her dormant magic stirs to life, trouble follows, and things spiral from zero to what-the-spell faster than you can say "ancestral vendettas."

With threads of her family's turbulent past unraveling around her, Lexi must confront her deepest fears, embrace her birthright, and claim the power she's always denied—or lose everything to the flames.

Because when you're Cupid's daughter, you don't just weave romantic fates—you bind them. And if Lexi can't untangle the knots of her own making, the Balefire flame—and her future with Kin—might burn out for good.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "A hilarious, magical romantasy packed with matchmaking chaos, meddling godmothers, and one reluctant witch's journey to embrace her powers."

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ "A perfect blend of humor, romance, and urban fantasy—Lexi's magical coming-of-age adventure hooked me from page one."

Fun read, stand-alone story yet enough lead in to the next story to want you to continue the series.

Sincerity, sarcasm, petty squabbling, working together, love & hate - I fine blend of uplifting epic struggle heavily seasoned with mundane calamity.

This book is a piece of fluff that would be better off if it embraced the young adult genre. It’s well-written in that it flows well, has good word choice, and is imaginative, with only a few out of place words that would benefit from more proofreading. However, the story and characters are fairly flat, since the author doesn’t really take the time to develop feeling or depth, and there’s at least one plot hole. I also never buy into the “love in 2 weeks” narrative. The story seems to pass over events as they happen until they become relevant again, which results in Lexi taking far too long to pick things up given the predictable plot. Lexi seems like a sympathetic character at first, but it doesn’t take long to realize she’s simply an extremely privileged, self-centered, snarky brat. When she makes mistakes, there aren’t any real consequences. The one time something’s actually at stake, the problem is quickly resolved as Athena simply gives her the solution. When she says she’ll apologize to Flix and Terra, she never does. She never demonstrates any real character development.

Such a welcome reprieve from all the negative reading out there! Funny, wonderful and couldn’t wait to see what happens next. A complete story and great characters. I would recommend this book even, especially, to those drawn to more conventional mysteries. A refreshing and entertaining book!
