Book Synopsis

“A roaring good read.”—FORBES.com

Master sniper Bob Lee Swagger returns in this riveting novel by bestselling author and Pulitzer Prize winner Stephen Hunter.

The Great Depression was marked by an epidemic of bank robberies and Tommy-gun-toting outlaws who became household names. Hunting them down was the new U.S. Division of Investigation--soon to become the FBI--which was determined to nab the most dangerous gangster this country has ever produced: Baby Face Nelson. To stop him, the Bureau recruited talented gunman Charles Swagger, World War I hero and sheriff of Polk County, Arkansas.

Eighty years later, Charles's grandson Bob Lee Swagger uncovers a strongbox containing an array of memorabilia dating back to 1934--a federal lawman's badge, a .45 automatic preserved in cosmoline, a mysterious gun part, and a cryptic diagram--all belonging to Charles Swagger. Bob becomes determined to find out what happened to his grandfather-- and why his own father never spoke of Charles. But as he investigates, Bob learns that someone is following him--and shares his obsession.

Told in alternating timeframes, G-Man is a thrilling addition to Stephen Hunter's bestselling Bob Lee Swagger series.

Wow! Even for Stephen Hunter this book is a stand-out. It’s best to read on a long, lousy weather weekend with a pre-stocked fridge & lit fireplace.

Stephen Hunter, and the Swagger family are like a fine wine. The older Bob Lee gets, and the more that we learn about the Swagger family the better it gets. G-Man is one of S Hunter’s best!!!

Awkward reading. Didn’t make a lot of sense. Got half way thru and still am not sure what the point of the story.

I loved this book as it tied together historical facts and the plot of the novel into the storyline By the time you are done, you'll be asking yourself if this was what really happened! Very enjoyable and I look forward to reading more by this author.
  • Great read for all the Swagger followers

I think this might be Hunter’s best work. The research and imaginative plot keeps you locked into the story. You will try to figure out how it will play out but Hunter stays just out of reach the whole way through.

You owe me, Stephen Hunter, for the hours I wasn’t earning a living but was, rather, enraptured in this latest piece of brilliant writing! Thank you for sharing this gift with all of us Hunter addicts scattered around the world. Now I have to reluctantly return to the real world! :-( Steve Jobe, Shady Shores, TX

Another great Swagger read. Even though I am not a nonfiction buff... this historical fiction was very entertaining and was an easy read... my only complaint.... why does Bob Lee Swagger have to age? Please give us more

I love this author's Swagger tales and have had the honor of meeting him at a couple of book signings. This one did not let me down. Hunter is the greatest gun slinging novelist of all times. Get this book and enjoy a trip back in time to the hey days of the 30's.

Awesome novel recounting the violent and heated war between the original G-men and the most brutal criminals of that day. Courage, heroism, blind evil, and govt. betrayal all playing their part. Great character studies and loads of historical narrative. Imho, which is good enough for me.

I wrote a stinging review about his last book. I had read all of his previous books and never new the politics of the Swaggers. His last book puts Swagger at odds with our newly elected black President, which I found disappointing. This book sets everything straight. I learned much about firearms of the thirties and the infamous mob as well as the "G-Men. A great read. Hope he has another Swagger left in him!
