Book Synopsis

The first novel in a sexy series featuring the hockey players of the Brooklyn Bruisers and the women who win their hearts—from the USA Today bestselling author of the Ivy Years series.

In high school they were the perfect couple—until the day Georgia left Leo in the cold...

Hockey player Leo Trevi has spent the last six years trying to do two things: get over the girl who broke his heart, and succeed in the NHL. But on the first day he’s called up to the newly franchised Brooklyn Bruisers, Leo gets checked on both sides, first by the team’s coach—who has a long simmering grudge, and then by the Bruisers’ sexy, icy publicist—his former girlfriend Georgia Worthington.

Saying goodbye to Leo was one of the hardest things Georgia ever had to do—and saying hello again isn’t much easier. Georgia is determined to keep their relationship strictly professional, but when a press conference microphone catches Leo declaring his feelings for her, things get really personal, really fast....

Delightful, easy reading and sinfully sexy novel. I didn’t want to put it down until I finished reading this book. Looking forward to the next book in this series.

I really enjoyed this second chance storyline. Leo and Georgia’s connection is strong and electric. Their journey, while emotional at times, is filled with flirty banter and scorching hot chemistry. Loved the start of this new series and can’t wait to read the next one.

I have been eagerly anticipating Sarina Bowen’s first book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series revolving around hockey player Leo Trevi. Leo is excited he has finally achieved his dream of making it into the NHL and playing for the Brooklyn Bruisers. However, his excitement wanes when he realizes his new coach is not happy he is joining the team. Leo is also surprised that his former high school girlfriend, Georgia works as the team publicist. It is the first time Leo and Georgia have seen each other in six years and Leo realizes he still has feelings for her. Georgia is independent and confident in most of the areas of her life, but she is still trying to get over some things that happened in her past. Georgia is afraid to get involved with Leo again and she is also afraid to let him go. She keeps trying to push Leo away, but he won't let her. I liked everything about Leo, he doesn't have a big ego and he is a nice, down to earth guy. Leo never gives up on Georgia and isn't interested in anyone else and his loyalty stole my heart. Georgia and Leo have lots of chemistry and make a great couple and I wanted things to work out for them this time. My only problem with the book was Leo and Georgia’s relationship builds slowly and to be honest, I wish it had moved a little faster in the beginning. I loved all the characters in this book, especially Leo. The secondary characters added another dimension to the story; they are an interesting and a fun group and I just kept thinking about all the future stories that can be written about them. Along with everything else he is trying to deal with Leo is trying to fit in with his new team. He is the newest rookie and his teammates love to give him a hard time. There is lots of hockey in this story and hockey players talking smack with each other and I enjoyed every minute of it. Throughout everything the guys on the team remain close and are always there for each other. The owner of the hockey team is a unconventional nerd who decided to buy and move the team to Brooklyn. The Brooklyn Bruisers are the newest team in the league and they are still trying to prove themselves. Rookie Move is an enchanting, well written story about a second chance at love and it is a standalone. Thanks to the author for providing a copy of this book vIa Cocktails and Books and Netgalley. The opinions expressed are my own.

I can only say that Third POV is not my thing and when i started this and realised that it's Third POV i wanted to stop it, but as i keep reading it i just couldn't close it. i realised i've read 50% of the book in less than a day, so it's mean it was wonderful. and the reminder of Ivy Years. Leo was amazing and kind of in his Rookie stages. Thank you for writing such a beautiful novel. i've read all the three books in the series and i love them. looking forward to the 4th book. ❤️

Sarina Bowen once again demonstrates that she is a master of depicting the psychological ramifications of abuse for both the victim and his/her loved ones. In this first book in the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey romance series Bowen gives us Leo Trevi (who we met previously in the Ivy Years series) and Georgia Worthington. Six years after their high school romance ended as the result of the after effects of a traumatic event Leo and Georgia are reunited by fate (?!) as part of the Brooklyn Bruisers hockey team franchise. Leo has never gotten over Georgia and is determined to win her back. Georgia can't trust what he feels or for that matter what she feels. Adding a fun complication? Georgia's father is the new coach of the team and he want absolutely no part of Leo. The story traces the renewal of their relationship and the attempts to come to grips, six years later, with everything that happened that senior year of high school. Once again Bowen delivers crisp writing and heavy emotion. The secondary characters are integral to the story arc not merely filler or comic relief. I've read all of Bowen's books and this one keeps pace with her stellar delivery of good characters, well written plots, enough background detail to be realistic to the setting, whether it be college, hockey, farms etc, and satisfying HEA. Highly recommend.
  • 5 Sweet Second Chance Romance Stars! ⭐️

Completely loved this sweet second chance romance! The characters were relatable and lovable and I just couldn't get enough! I'm a sucker for sports and first love/second chance romances, and Rookie Move did not disappoint! This is the first book in the series, and I can't wait for more! One of the best parts of Rookie Move is that the story stays focused on Leo and Georgia. Yes, they both have their baggage and demons to battle, but there's no unnecessary drama/conflict or other potential love interests. Their love for each other, in the past and present, is clear as day and you can't help but root for them. Seriously, swoon!! Leo will go down as one of the best book boyfriends of all time. He's supportive, loving, considerate, passionate, and an all around good hearted guy. Georgia is also such a strong heroine. Her painful past was palpable and broke my heart. She's determined to overcome it, but until she sees Leo again, she doesn't realize that she hasn't fully moved past it to live again. Watching these two reconnect and rekindle flames that never died was emotional and heart warming. It's not a smooth path and I do wish they wouldn't have wasted so much time denying their hearts, but I understand that it was necessary for them to heal (though not entirely) and grow/mature. Leo and Georgia are perfectly imperfect and I loved making the journey with them. Some readers who enjoy the more a**hole alphas (don't we all at least a little? ;)), may find the story too sweet and sappy, but for this romantic at heart, Rookie Move was perfect.

This is the first book in the Brooklyn Bruisers series. This book can be read as a standalone novel. For reader enjoyment and further understanding, read in companion with The Ivy Years series. Georgia & Leo have a history. When he comes to be on her team, with her father suddenly in the picture also, tensions are high. Is it wrong of her to still want the man? Leo is not sure how he can stand the thought that Georgia may reject him yet again. Just getting to know a new team is hard enough. Now they just need a little heat and a little compromise. Seriously great start to a new series with beloved characters! Already enjoying the series with the players seeming to be charming and hot. What a joy to read! I cannot wait to see what the author comes up with next.
