Book Synopsis

In this “deftly and originally executed” (Booklist) New York Times bestselling novel, Vaelin Al Sorna must help his Queen reclaim her Realm. Only his enemy has a dangerous new collaborator, one with powers darker than Vaelin has ever encountered…

“The Ally is there, but only ever as a shadow, unexplained catastrophe or murder committed at the behest of a dark vengeful spirit. Sorting truth from myth is often a fruitless task.”

After fighting back from the brink of death, Queen Lyrna is determined to repel the invading Volarian army and regain the independence of the Unified Realm. Except, to accomplish her goals, she must do more than rally her loyal supporters. She must align herself with forces she once found repugnant—those who possess the strange and varied gifts of the Dark—and take the war to her enemy’s doorstep.

Victory rests on the shoulders of Vaelin Al Sorna, now named Battle Lord of the Realm. However, his path is riddled with difficulties. For the Volarian enemy has a new weapon on their side, one that Vaelin must destroy if the Realm is to prevail—a mysterious Ally with the ability to grant unnaturally long life to her servants. And defeating one who cannot be killed is a nearly impossible feat, especially when Vaelin’s blood-song, the mystical power which has made him the epic fighter he is, has gone ominously silent…

  • Yikes!

The first 2 books were amazing, captivating, and thrilling. This one... well let’s just say I was disappointed in it. The plot just felt broken, never really well put together and polished. The ending rushed and sudden. All my favorite characters were degraded or ruined in some way or another, starting with Vaelin. I gave this a rating of 2 out of 5 purely out of respect of the first 2 books. I’m sorry but this one just didn’t do it for me. Also, did you have to kill off Dahrena? I don’t know maybe I’m a romantic at heart who enjoys the happy ending, but hasn’t Vaelin suffered enough? Well, regardless, all I have to say for this book is yikes, as almost every chapter was like a chore to read due to the boringness of all the characters, the lack of excitement I once felt from them.
  • Felt rushed and lack of creativity

The first two books had my attention completely and absolutely loved them. This felt like it was rushed just to finish it. Vaelin seemed scattered and was hard to paint a picture of him throughout most of the book. Very disappointed with the ending to what could have easily been and stayed my favorite series

Feels like it was rushed to finish the end. So much potential and too many unanswered questions. Very disappointing when the first two were so good.

I loved the first two, they were fantastic. The story was incredibly immerse, the characters were interesting with detailed personalities, and the plot was the greatest asset of your novel. Your skill with words and storytelling had me assured that the finale would be immensely satisfying. Now having read the book all I can say is, what happened.

Book was very dissapointing. I loved the first two books. Last one was anticlimactic and unimaginative. Wished I had not run out and bought it.

What a great trilogy, I am glad to see that the author left a few mysteries and lead ins to maybe another 3 books in years to come. Thank you for writing these stories. I would have to say these are definitely high in my top ten.
