Definitely some translation hiccups in these early volumes. Definitely one of the best manga introductions in history, though.

An excellent manga series with great characters and development. The plots, twists, and strategies will keep you at rapt attention at every turn. The series starts off slowly by gradually introducing some of the characters and the world, but it quickly picks up when the hunter exams begin. The art looks more cartoonish at first, but it improves as it goes on and becomes incredibly flexible later on in the series. The story itself will have you laughing and even falling in love with characters you disliked at first. This series is not afraid to kill characters off, and you may find yourself crying for a character you used to hate but who developed so much that you really grew attached. The manga series and both anime series are great. My only complaint about the manga is that it can take awhile for a new chapter or volume to come out, but it is still worth waiting for. In the meantime, there are a ton of volumes to keep me busy rereading. The bonus sketches between chapters are really nice to look at, too.
