never does HAWK have that much to say. It was a good run Robert Parker. Thank you.
  • Very disappointing.

Missed the mark. Dialogue/characters/plot felt sugar-coated and syrupy. Lacked classic Parker doses of manly, edgy, and clever. Reminded me of the horrible feeling I get when I hear a "muzak" version of a rock classic… can't wait to get out of that elevator.

It's always tentative ground when one author finishes another's work, especially when it's Robert B Parker, my favorite contemporary author and a man who I feel I knew. I was eleven when my Dad gave me the Godwulf Manuscript and I've spent thirty-five years reading his books. Helen Brann has done something that I have to imagine is a difficult task by getting Spenser right. There were a few moments when I found myself asking "Would Spenser prepare a turducken?" or something similar, but it's right on for the most part. Congratulations and thank you, Helen Brann. And for fans of Spenser, this book is worth the read. It might not be the right book for a first time Parker reader, but who knows--I found out recently that some of my favorite Parker stories are the ones that other fans like the least. I enjoyed this story a lot, and I hope you will too.

Thank you Helen for keeping Mr Parker's Spenser alive and well ! I think the best Spenser novels are the one's that involve Hawk in the story line and delve into their up bringing and characters. Silent Night is a well written novel and kept me wanting more. which is the point I do believe of every author to want his or her audience to come back for the next offering. Please keep Spenser coming back for more I know I will ! Mark

Awful. Implausible storyline. Inconsistencies in storyline. Sophomoric errors in time and place. Sad. Don't bother.

I couldn't even finish it. I'm not sure what it was, but I know it wasn't Spenser and Hawk.

This book is a terrible legacy to the memory of Robert Parker. The plot is not credible, the characters are wooden and the dialogue seems to be a cut and paste exercise from previous Spenser adventures. Aviod.

I believe I have read each of Robert Parker's books. This was not a disappointment. The hearts of each character remained true and yet... It's nice to know that Mr Parker was an original. My deepest sympathies to those who miss the man and those who miss the author.

Don't bother. It's not a RBP novel. It's a Helen Brann novel. It certainly wasn't Spenser or Hawk. Thanks for trying Ms. Brann.
