Esther Wanning was born in Boston, Massachusetts, and is descended from New England Yankees on both sides of her family. She grew up in a rural setting, but spent her young adulthood in New York City, where she worked as a magazine and travel book editor. After a short stint as a teacher, she moved to San Francisco, where she continued editing and writing. She now lives in Marin County, California.
She has written for numerous publications and, in addition to CultureShock! USA, is the author of Surviving Without Cigarettes and The Art of Maryland. In true American fashion, she returned to school in mid-life and earned a master’s degree in counselling psychology. While continuing to write, she now also works as a psychotherapist.
