  • Great for beginners!

    By jzqx
The essence of this book is basically this: master the basics fully before going after openings. I’d have to disagree slightly, because (for me personally) when I was a beginner is was nice to have one simple opening for each side under my belt to utilize (even if I didn’t completely understand it). Just a pre-meditated plan, to develop my pieces to good spots, that I knew reasonably well. Example: Italian Opening Note: the foundations are still all-important, you may “know” or “use” an opening but you must realize that your understanding of it and effectiveness with it will both increase significantly if you master the basics. But still a decent book, allowing for a few spelling issues. Short and to the point.
  • Good users guide

Good quick read that covers all the basics, there were some misspellings along the way, but they’re usually pretty easy to navigate. It’s almost like you’re reading a quick user guide that came with the board. With some flavoring of tactics

Although there were a few editing errors, the book was good overall. It was short and to the point.
  • I thought it was a book on openers.

Start at the end. Once you get to the openers (what I thought the book was about), he basically says go watch YouTube and play a lot. This is truly for an absolute beginner book. Not beginner openings.
  • A lot of grammatical errors

    By Busch Johnson
Good read for someone just starting chess, but the grammatical errors make some parts confusing and the constant plugging of their newsletter and website distracts from the teaching.
