My first zombie book...it pulled me right in! Fantastic!

Have you ever made such a drastic mistake that at one point it becomes all you can think about? That's what it's like for Flex Sheridan as the unbelievable, unimaginable happens... He finds himself lost in thought as he makes a long distance road trip to an even more gruesome nightmarish reality. What he discovers there will drastically change his life forever... He will have to reach deep within himself to his very soul to discover all that lies in wait, along the way he will find friends new and old... Together this little band of warriors and misfits truly finds out what it is like to love, laugh, cry, rage, battle on in the face of insurmountable odds and not just survive, but learn and grow as a team to become a force to be reckoned with in this post zompoc saga. This is a story of love and passion and trust and friendship, overcoming desperation and fear to learn all they can, to study this apocalypse and find it's weakness and kick it's a**!!! You really need to read this and don't stop here, read them all..... I did and I have reread them and this book is only the beginning in a long line of AWESOME!!!!

It took me awhile to get around to giving Flex and his gang a chance. Would a character named Flex take the zombie apocalypse seriously? Who is this Eric A. Shelman anyhow? Am I ever glad I finally jumped into the Dead Hunger pool, because I have fallen hard for Flex Sheridan. And Gem. And Hemp. And Charlie. And, my personal favorite,Trina, the cutest little zombie butt kicker ever. Throw in a Great Pyrenees and we have the team I want to be on when the zombies hit the fan! Mr. Shelman brings some fresh ideas to zombie lore along with a whopping dose of action, danger and even humor. I love a book that I can immerse myself in, and that keeps me turning the page far too late into the night. That's Dead Hunger and I highly recommend taking the journey.

This is a really successful series on Amazon, but I'd never checked it out. I just finished this book and I can give a solid thumbs way up on this one. The author knows how to tell a character-driven story without skimping (at all!) on the epic action I've come to love in this genre. It's hard to describe Eric Shelman's style, because it's not like any I've read before. There is a streamlined simplicity to even his most intricate scenes of action and emotion. Sounds odd, right?! But Shelman totally pulls it off! Love the characters, love the plot (which is FRESH in this genre), and love the book. Worth the buy. Very worth the buy.
