Book Synopsis

CAN A PIRATE LEARN . . .

River pirate "Charming" Mickey O'Connor has lifted himself from the depths of the slums to be the king of St. Giles. Anything he wants he gets-with one exception. Silence Hollingbrook has been haunting his dreams ever since she spent a single night in his bed.

THAT THE ONLY TRUE TREASURE . . .

Once Silence was willing to sacrifice anything to save the man she loved. Now a widow, she's finally found peace when Charming Mickey comes storming back into her life with an offer she can't refuse. But this time she won't be the only one paying the price for his sins.

LIES IN A WOMAN'S HEART?

When his past comes back to torment him, Mickey must keep Silence safe from a merciless enemy, while wrestling with the delicious hold this widow has on his heart. And in the face of mounting danger, both will have to surrender to something even more terrifying . . . true love.

One review said the hero was unapologetic. That’s incorrect. You see he has regrets before you’re halfway through the book. Silence is so protective of Mary Darling that she’ll stand up to one of the most feared men in St. Giles. She’s flawed. She imagines she had a perfect marriage and she’s terrible at cooking and sewing. So, I also disagree with the statement that she has no personality. It’s a steamy romance with some strong characters. I enjoyed it.

May show how much or little I have as a person of understanding. Why do the covers never match the person in the book?? Seriously. Anyone? I did not praise this book the first time I read it many years back.. and I couldn’t quite figure out why- other than the cover debacle!! But now I get it Silence is clearly a metaphor and the Hero was a loon. The woman was irrelevant to the story one did not like or dislike her she was mere furniture to clear away any ambivalence-towards-the unrepentant hero. She offered no theater to the plot no plight no brass nothing just silence. So weird!! Alas we shall put this back in books to read in 10 years and see if I still regard it the same..
