I wasn’t ready for a book to make my heart hurt like this.

A hard hitting, more realistic Star Wars story that doesn’t pull punches. I read it soon after it was first published years ago and it is/was worth reading (and buying) again. This one, single book is great to enjoy independent from the rest of the books in the series, and is written better than most of the others, too. The (mostly human) classic characters of Star Wars face a truly alien extra-galactic species that would probably be more realistic of what an actual alien encounter would be like: warfare based on insurmountable cultural and genetic differences. A previously unknown, threatening, intelligent but foreign thinking warfaring species from another galaxy with radically different technology threatening violent conquest while the Homo sapiens-centric known galaxy flounders about, mired down by political squabbles. It falls upon the scattered, (and perhaps intentionally), disorganized Jedi to mount some sort of defense while the aliens decimate some of the mightiest military forces in the galaxy. It challenges the cheesiness and tropes of nearly every other Star Wars story ever told and is a welcome, but almost chilling, interesting take on the Star Wars universe.
  • The Kinda Slow Start To The Epic Series

Star Wars The New Jedi Order: Vector Prime is the first book in the nineteen volume epic. Like most Star Wars books, it has it's share of fun new worlds, characters, creatures and humerus moments, but over all it's pretty slow moving. The story is so big that it takes the whole book just to establish the characters and the commencing of the Yuuzhan Vong invasion. Jecen and Jaina, who also star in the Young Jedi Knight series, return in this series just a little older and wiser. All our favorites like Luke, Leia, Han and Chewbacca also reappear in the novel. Although it's not so action packed as I had expected it to be, Vector Prime is a pretty good start to the NJO series. The story has some decent suspense and is thought provoking. The Yuuzhan Vong present an intriguing new concept and definitely change the way you look at the galaxy. Over all it's an interesting Star Wars tale that grows with each of the New Jedi Order books that follow.

This book is absolutely amazing. So many awesome books spawned from what is established in this novel. I would recommend for any Star Wars or Sci-Fi fan.
