Book Synopsis

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER • Impeccably researched, this riveting journalistic investigation separates fact from fiction, and documents the unexplained mysteries of—and government reactions to—actual UFOs.

“A treasure trove of insightful and eye-opening information.”—Michio Kaku, PH.D., bestselling author of Physics of the Future

Leslie Kean, a veteran investigative reporter who has spent the past ten years studying the still-unexplained UFO phenomenon, reviewed hundreds of government documents, aviation reports, radar data, and case studies with corroborating physical evidence. She interviewed dozens of high-level officials and aviation witnesses from around the world. Among them, five Air Force generals and a host of high-level sources—including Fife Symington III, former governor of Arizona, and Nick Pope, former head of the British Defence Ministry’s UFO Investigative Unit—have written their own breathtaking, firsthand accounts about UFO encounters and investigations exclusively for this book.

With the support of former White House chief of staff John Podesta, Kean lifts the veil on decades of U.S. government misinformation about this mysterious phenomenon and presents irrefutable evidence that unknown flying objects—metallic, luminous, and seemingly able to maneuver in ways that defy the laws of physics—actually exist.

With a Foreword by John Podesta

“The most important book on the phenomenon in a generation.”Journal of Scientific Exploration

“Written with penetrating depth and insight, the revelations in this book constitute a watershed event in lifting the taboo against rational discourse about this controversial subject.”—Harold E. Puthoff, PH.D., Director of the Institute for Advanced Studies at Austin

“Kean presents the most accurate, most credible reports on UFOs you will ever find. She may not have the final smoking gun, but I smell the gunpowder.”—Miles O’Brien, science correspondent for PBS’s NewsHour

After watching the Nimitz recordings, I wanted to look further into the subject and maintain an open mind. Leslie Kean’s book seemed intriguing at first glance due to the involvement and foreword from John Podesta and the promise of other government and military personnels’ UFO testimonies. These testimonies, naturally, would have more credibility behind them than the average loon down the block. The book isn’t falsely advertised and steers away from endorsing extreme claims without proof - although there is some discussion of the extraterrestrial hypothesis and other unsubstantiated theories. Despite these testimonies, I still left the book feeling disappointed. Countless retellings of pilot sightings, vagaries from government officials about potential Unacknowledged Special Access Programs (USAPs), drawings from eye witnesses, and scores of declassified documents didn’t convince me that UFOs are factual. There could be numerous explanations - physical and psychological - for these sightings that have not been entirely eliminated. Kean is smart to strictly adhere to the definition of UFOs as Unidentified Flying Objects to persevere her credibility, but she does it with a nod and wink suggesting that she thinks they are extraterrestrial… and then she subsequently backtracks, hand waves, and says “nobody knows.” And to be clear, nobody knows (at least based on all publicly available information and including the information in this book). I agree with Kean’s premise that this should be investigated further and that these occurrences, if real, might be extraterrestrial in nature. But, I cannot walk away with the conclusion that these are undoubtedly real and present phenomena. Readers should give the book a shot and come to their own conclusions. I remain cautiously neutral and thank the author for compiling testimonies from sources with more credible pedigrees.

I remember Lesley presenting the book several years ago during her interview on the Paracast radio show and now finally, after several years have passed, I'm reading the book and I really-really wish this book would have a bigger impact on people's per Elgin of UFOs. I do hope that gradually it does and will help people to look at the phenomena differently.

I was not a believer! I honestly thought I would close this book and never look back. But after a few pages I couldn't. Now I have a whole new outlook on the world around me. I challenge anyone to read this and still be a skeptic. Kean is completely objective and approaches the issue from a completely scientific approach. Research and testimony from professionals make this book completely legitimate and will at the very least will keep you interested until the end.
