Wow. The solar eclipse timer app made by the author was absolutely instrumental for me to take successful photos of the 2017 total solar eclipse, so when I saw this book by Telepun, I knew I had to read it. I knew Telepun was thorough and I assumed I’d learn a thing or two reading this, but I learned waaaay more than I expected. This is a definitive deep dive into solar eclipses, and I’ve read it three times over at this point. From gear, to techniques, to video tips & examples, this is an outstandingly thorough work. That being said, don’t let it scare you off if you just have a casual interest in solar eclipses—the layout is inviting and, as the author himself says, you can certainly approach this work in a casual, piecemeal way if that’s what you prefer. The majesty, awe, and wonder of a total eclipse is a life-changing experience, and Telepun’s passion for this cosmic wonder comes through in his inspiring devotion. Get this book, and get to an eclipse site!

I had the pleasure to observe the 2017 solar eclipse with Dr. Telepun’s group. He made the early stages of the eclipse interesting, right up to the final fascinating thing, observing shadow bands! This book reminds me of that “eclipse day” and all the things I enjoyed as an observer only. This book is great for novices like me. But for those who want details there is more here than you can imagine. I am not an eclipse photographer, but when I skim that information in the book I can tell it’s comprehensive.
