This is a good book. The romance was believable and not forced. Not a fan of some of the weird misogynistic language in here though.

I enjoyed this enemies to lovers storyline. Troy and Aspyn have great chemistry and fantastic banter. Both have baggage from their past and their journey will have you hooked from the beginning to the end. Another great read by this author.

Aspyn Dumont is sure that she hates, has always hated and will continue to hate Troy Serrano. Aspyn is holding a big grudge against her best friend’s former high school boy friend. “…one decision could change the entire course of your life.” Troy is not the same dumb kid from high school and sets out to prove that to Aspyn when they are forced to spend some time together. “We’ve both made mistakes, mistakes with unintentionally serious consequences. But they happened. And holding onto them isn’t going to change anything.” The Assignment is a cute, fun and entertaining read with a few surprising twists thrown in to keep things interesting :) “You’re not perfect, Serrano. Not by a longshot. Neither am I. But I think we’re perfect for each other.” Another enjoyable book by this author and well worth the read! -4 Stars-

Loved Aspyn and Troy! Aspyn is the activities director at Horizons. Troy her arch nemesis from high school shows up to take his Nonno out and Aspyn is assigned babysitting duty. She quickly is attracted to the hot grandson who wants to be friends with added benefits. Only he has a lot to do to earn her trust. This is an enemy to lovers book and is a slow burn. Penelope Ward does all the feels!

I love a good enemies to lover’s story, and I was excited to read this one from Penelope. Troy and Aspyn were enemies back in high school and I couldn’t wait to see what the circumstances were going to be that caused this status, and how they were going to reconnect. I loved that it centered around Troy’s adorable grandfather in the nursing home that Aspyn worked for. There’s definitely a lot of angst in this story. Both characters had a lot of baggage in their backgrounds that felt like it was going to derail their relationship at every turn. Troy worked hard to gain Aspyn’s trust, but she was a super hard nut to crack when it came to giving Troy even a little leniency. I struggled a bit with this aspect because it felt like Aspyn acted like Troy was the one and only person who had caused all the problems in high school and caused them to become enemies, but realistically, he cheated on her friend, NOT her, so I felt her actions went way overboard and she held onto that grudge way too long, even while she was starting to fall for him. I emphasized with both characters for all the things that had happened in their pasts. Those kinds of things certainly had a direct impact on the direction their lives took after high school. Now, they’re both (mostly) mature adults, so the timing was perfect for them to reconnect again. There’s no doubt these two had some amazing chemistry which made for some steamy scenes. Ohh la la!! I really loved Troy’s Nonno, and of course little Kiki. That kid was way smarter than they gave her credit for. And the love secrets from Nonno? Priceless! Even though this story was not one of my favorites from Penelope, it is excellently written, and very emotional. Readers who love the enemies to lover’s trope will eat this one up!

I’m an emotional wreck after finishing the Assignment. This book was a bit of a change from what we normally get in Penelope books. But it was an awesome change! Both Troy & Aspyn had different life challenges. Both heartbreaking in their own right. And their past together was not good. Crazy Enemies to Lovers story. The banter between these 2 was really hot. Loved the story and emotions I felt while reading it. My book hangover is intense!
