It seemed as though the author told his own story as as Auschwitz survivor. A very realistic story and storyteller. Well done.

Despite frequently having to remind yourself that this book is actually historical fiction, you can’t help but feel in your bones that the atrocities that the author describes happening to the protagonist aren’t products of the author’s imagination, they are real events that happened to real people. Though the real victims of the Holocaust seldom went on to live such happy lives, the author delivers more facts than any high school textbook ever could. Some criticize the author for telling the tale without having lived it, but it is my opinion that this book opens the eyes of the reader to a different level of understanding to the pain people endured while maintaining respect to the true victims, though we who have never lived the horrors of the Holocaust may never be fully able to grasp the depth of the pain they felt.
