Book Synopsis

As two neighborhood shop owners battle for business, they prove opposites attract in this "deliciously sweet and savory new romantic comedy" (USA Today bestselling author Abby Jimenez). Blaire Calloway has planned every Instagram-worthy moment of her cupcake and cocktails shop launch down to the tiniest detail. What she didn't plan on? Ronan Knight and his old-school sports bar next door opening on the very same day. He may be super swoony, but Blaire hasn't spent years obsessing over buttercream and bourbon to have him ruin her chance at success. From axe throwing (his place) to frosting contests (hers), Blaire and Ronan are constantly trying to one-up each other in a battle to win new customers. But with every clash, there's also an undeniable chemistry. When an even bigger threat to their business comes to town, they're forced to call a temporary time-out on their own war and work together. And the more time Blaire spends getting to know the real Ronan, the more she wonders if it's possible to have her cupcake and eat it too. "Kiss My Cupcake is a laugh-out-loud romance full of charm, wit and magic. Ronan and Blaire will have you fall in love with their story from their very first encounter. A thoroughly delicious read." --LJ Shen, USA Today bestselling author "With a sweet, sassy heroine and a deliciously sexy hero, Kiss My Cupcake is romantic comedy perfection!" -- Melanie Harlow, USA Today bestselling author

Blaire and Ronan are neighboring businesses that end up being rivals. Blaire has been working hard to establish her cupcake/cocktail bar while Ronan is trying to bring née life into his grandpa’s bar. When Ronan moves up his opening day to the same day as Blaire’s, the opening salvos are fired. The biggest battle is fighting against the crazy attraction between them.
  • Sweet & sassy

Sweet with a lot of sass! A very nice guy, friendly and playful, meets this sassy, June Cleaver dressing type who doesn’t fall for his charms. He has his work cut out for him if he wants them to get along as business neighbors. This was a fun, charming story! Blaire comes from restauranteurs royalty, but she decided to strike out on her own. When you meet her family, you’ll realize why, it’s a necessary move to keep her sanity. After many years of incessant work, little hours of sleep, a lot of learning, she finally opens up her cupcake store called Buttercream & Booze. With a novel approach, mixing delicious cupcakes with matching cocktails, it’s a recipe for success. But she has a new storefront neighbor, who renovated the bar into an axe throwing bar and diner, with loud music and a charming owner who promises to take away a lot of her clientele. Never mind that he’s a gorgeous and friendly hunk! Ronan took over his grandfather’s bar, The Knight Cup, to renovate it and bring more clientele in. He had a deal with Gramps that he would improve the operation and then Gramps would help him start his brewery, which is Ronan’s ambition. What Ronan didn’t expect was to have such an enticing neighbor, and with such an enticing trade: delicious cupcakes. Pretty soon he and his Gramps were addicted! Blaire and Ronan had outrageous chemistry that at first looked like fighting, then competition, then turned into co-hosting events. It really felt like foreplay! His daily visits to Blaire’s store to indulge and moan at her daily cupcake inventions are comical. There’s a scene during a bridesmaid event, in which Blaire got back at Ronan for all his tricks, that’s hysterically funny. This is one of those books that you read with a smile on your face. It alternates funny moments, with cute moments, and some serious with a touch of angst. The scenes with Gramps, Ronan’s grandfather and owner of The Knight Cap, are tender and poignant. The scenes with Blaire’s family are cringe worthy with a touch of weird. Initially, I didn’t like the contentious interactions between Blaire and Ronan. While Ronan was having fun playing tricks on Blaire to raise her hackles, she was always uptight and snarky. I liked her because she was nice with everyone else but with Ronan she was so nasty. Then I saw why she was so defensive about her business, and loved how she worked it out for the benefit of both. Their fighting eventually changed into banter, into cooperation, playfulness and finally loved creeped in. As a love story it was exceptional, as a family tale it was inspiring, both sides supporting the other. A great mixture of laughs, sighs, and happy cheer!

This might be because it’s 2:30 in the morning but it’s possible I may be a little bit in love with Gramps. He’s just the cutest! In true Helena form, she made me want to know the characters in real life. They’re the type that makes an imprint into your soul and also will make you laugh out loud with their shenanigans. Blair’s attitude toward Ronan was so entertaining. And Ronan’s cupcakegasams made me wish (for once) that I had the audible version too. I loved the posts at the end of each chapter! Unique and enjoyable. Pretty sure I highlighted most of them. You won’t want to miss this story! Just might be my new favorite of her standalones 🖤

@buttercreamandbooze: I’m just a cupcake, looking for my stud muffin. This book was so much fun! Ronan & Blaire are adjacent bar owners and they couldn’t be more different- she’s all polished 50’s retro & he’s a plaid wearing lumberjack hipster. From their first spirited encounter, an intense love/hate rivalry develops and when they find themselves in competition for bragging rights as “Best Bar in the Pacific Northwest” all bets are off. There’s Karaoke, Harry Potter trivia nights, ax throwing & a hilariously naughty bachelorette cupcake party! Alls fair in beer & cupcakes! When they have to join forces against a big bar chain moving into their neighborhood, the slow burning attraction they tried to ignore soon ignites. It’s funny & tender, sweet & dirty- this delightful romance is a feel good must read!

Kiss My Cupcake is a must read! I loved the Sass, I loved the banter, I loved the sexiness and tension! It had me laughing out loud and swooning almost at the same time! Ronan and Blaire had my kindle sweating with all the hotness that was going on! It was so good, it is one of those books you can keep coming back to and rereading it’s that good! I am voluntarily leaving my honest review after reading this arc, but I loved it so much I purchased my own.

Oh how I love me some Helena Hunting stories! Kiss My Cupcake is everything I know and love!  We got cupcakes, cocktails, a swoony tattooed hero and a heroine that is just divine! This is the story of Ronan and Blaire.  Competing business owners and rivals for the title of Best Bar in the Pacific Northwest. Blaire is feisty, she is fun and she is a fashion goddess! I loved how her in her quest for normal reflected in what she wore and she made no apologies for it.  Her very eclectic upbringing further pushes her for normalcy.  I loved her initial reaction to Ronan and her inner dialogue when it came to him. Ronan is swoony, dressed in plaid! I loved his history and the reason for fighting to bring his family bar back from the brink.  I love how he feeds of riling Blaire up and his nickname for her is precious and so spot on! The fireworks and hormones fly with these two from the get-go! I loved their interactions and the push and pull of their personal and business relationships! The dialogue and chemistry between these two was epic! The secondary characters bring a completeness to the story and I love to see some of them get their own stories in the future!

4.5 stars. This was a very fun and entertaining book. Blaire is getting her Cupcake store ready to open and all of the sudden there is tremendous noise from next door. She goes to give the owner of The Knight Cap a piece of her mind. Ronan doesn’t seem phased by Blaire coming in and a tremendous rivalry was born. The first half of this book is an extreme enemies to lovers, but then they have to join together to try to save both of their stores. I enjoyed the sparing between Blaire and Ronan in addition as they came together. There were many laugh out loud scenes and supporting characters. Definitely recommend this one!

This is a sweet and easy read. It’s full of delicious things, like cupcakes and cocktails and Ronan Knight. This was a fun and flirty enemies to lovers romance that’s light on the drama and heavy on the laughs and steam. Blaire is cute and quirky and I just loved her! I loved her style and her humor and her independence. Ronan is hip and hot. There’s more than meets the eye when it comes to him. I loved the banter between them and the slow burn was awesome! I just loved this book. Another win from Helena Hunting!

Kiss My Cupcake was a deliciously sweet romantic comedy. I really loved Blaire. She was feisty, independent and so funny. Ronan pushes every one of her buttons, and it was so much fun to read. Their side-by-businesses and all of the competition between the two was a wonderful way to build the tension. They were both working so hard to make their own bar a success, but when they worked together, magic happened. I loved the way the story unfolded and how Ronan and Blaire fell for each other. It was a really great book.
  • Perfect Blend of Sassy and Sweet

Helena Hunting’s 'Kiss My Cupcake' is the perfect blend of sassy and sweet, and is just the sort of delightful romp that we need during this crazy moment in time. Blaire Calloway has worked her cupcakes off to open her very own cupcakes and cocktail shop. She’s eschewed the help of her bougie (but well-intentioned) family to make her own way. Which is why she’s instantly on alert when Ronan Knight opens his sports bar (replete with axe throwing) right next store. The two engage in some competitive hijinks, continually trying to one-up the other. But when a bigger threat to their businesses comes into play, they reluctantly decide to team up… and that’s when the sparks really start to fly. As with her previous works, Hunting gives us wit, humor, and a whole lot of heart. Blaire’s quirky, but not in a gimmicky way, and Ronan’s character is just as well sketched. I always enjoy Hunting’s witty, unique banter and her protagonists’ inner monologues. (There are several laugh out loud moments.) She doesn’t give you a stereotypical, run-of-the-mill story; rather, she creates a world that is so well imagined you want to jump right into the pages and live there. (The fact that there’s chemistry in spades doesn’t hurt either.) This is the perfect novel to indulge in with a deliciously decadent cupcake or a craft beer or both (because, why not?), and is the perfect read to close out this wildly unique summer. An ARC was generously provided by the author in exchange for my honest (and, in this case, effusive) review.
