I was really excited about this book and wanted to love it...but the book failed to live up to its promises. From the description, I expected to read a compelling history of how the titular character directly contributed to NYC’s mob culture. Instead, I read a convoluted story that repeated itself and, other than the author mentioning that the story of Albert Hicks was a gangster bed-time story (fairy tale?), it really showed no correlation to what modern Americans think of as the mob or gangsters.

A materwork!! Better then The Devil In The White City. Mystery, adventure, what more cabn you ask for?

I skimmed half of this book. This book tuned out to be a real disappointment. It was a waste of money. Very poorly written, and redundant. I would giving zero stars to his book if I could. Do not buy this book. I would never recommend this terrible book to anyone. Worst book I’ve read this year. This author should be ashamed of himself for working such a terrible book.
