Book Synopsis

Meet the Wynns—a hockey dynasty built on family, money, and drama. From USA Today bestselling author Kelly Jamieson, the first novel in a new series is a total win-win.

“Kelly Jamieson is an auto-buy for me.”—Carly Phillips

After an injury forced Théo Wynn to give up professional hockey, he turned to his second love: numbers. Now, as the general manager of his grandfather’s NHL team, the Los Angeles Condors, Théo is dying to prove to the rest of his family—especially the brother who betrayed him—that he’s just as successful as the rest of them. If only Théo had a gorgeous woman on his arm to complete the picture. . . .

Lacey Olson needs to get out of Las Vegas right now, thanks to her no-good, crooked brother. When a handsome stranger who’s out partying with friends comes to her rescue in the cocktail lounge where she works, they strike up a conversation that leads to a crazy plan: her leaving with Théo for L.A. tomorrow. A few drinks later, the idea gets even crazier: a quickie marriage that works for both of them.

But back in California, Lacey immediately turns Théo’s precise, well-ordered life into one big beach party. And before long, she’s tempting him with her smart mouth, sexy body, and sunny charm. The last thing Théo needs is a real relationship to distract him. Because he only plays to win. . . .

When I first read about the new 'Wynn' series I was kind of bummed because I loved the idea behind the 'Ace Hockey' Series and getting to know most of the team through each book. However, I was absolutely selling this short. This hockey dynasty family is everything I've been looking for in a book! I cant wait to see how many of them will get a book/how their story will turn out. (Just reading the summaries that are released I can already say I am beyond impatient for July 23rd or October 1st to come!). This book makes me so excited to read about all this families crazy.. OK! So lets get to Play to Win! I absolutely love Théo's character and his background in the book. The fact that he is immediately mistaken for a super hot accountant makes me so happy. The hunky hockey nerd that likes to run through all the pros and cons decides to be a tad bit wild for the night and ends up doing things he would never in a million years do because of a beautiful waitress he decides to rescue. Lacey is an amazing personality that balances him out and makes him want to let go and have fun. Throughout the book you can see she cares for him and tries to help him. The scene at the end of Chapter 21 was absolutely surprising. Followed up with Theo's point of view. I have to applaud you Kelly on that one! This is something that many people might shy away from or be uncomfortable with but I loved it! Also love the segue into the second book In It To Win It in the epilogue. JP seems like a lost child and I know I'm going to love him (not as much as Théo, but I will try). This is definitely an insta(ish)-love story, as they fall for each other in about two months. But it really works for me. Which never happens. The amount of detail and the chemistry that is written between Lacey and Théo is there from the very beginning not just the attraction they feel towards each other.

Lacey grabbed me, she is tough as nails, dealing with a brother who gambles after losing her mother to cancer. She is working as hard as she can to make ends meet but her brother keeps making it impossible. When some bookies are suddenly after her for some ‘favors’ to repay his debts, she finds help in an unlikely person. Theo is celebrating his new job and finds himself connecting with the waitress, Lacey. Something in her eyes, even as she carries herself with confidence, grabs him. When he sees her in a bad situation well, he plays the white knight. Who knew that would include a marriage proposal? Can this marriage of convenience turn into something more? This romance kept me entertained and guessing on what would happen next. Lacey has to find her path in Los Angeles while Theo dives into his new job with determination. The chemistry Lacey and Theo have feels natural as her free spirit helps Theo relax. I wanted Lacey to find love and know that she is worth being loved after everything she had been through.

Théo Wynn is part of the Wynn hockey dynasty. Everyone in his family has something to do with hockey, wether they play it, own it, manage it or work in the back offices. On top of that, there is plenty of drama to go around. When his grandfather approaches him to come and manage his team the Los Angeles Condors, Théo decides to make the move from Las Vegas. Right now he’s an assistant manager and the thought of making all the top decisions, excites him. He’s always been a numbers guy, but that’s not how he started. Playing hockey was his first love, till the accident when a puck hit his eye. At one point they thought he would lose his eyesight, thank goodness that didn’t happen, even thou he was never able to play professionally again. On his last night in Vegas, Théo goes out for drinks with his teammates. When Lacey Olson finds out that her addicted gambling brother has emptied everything in her bank account again, she panics. How will she pay her rent. Lacey has been bailing him out since their mother passed away. A waitress in one of the more famous casinos in Vegas, she likes her job but not the long hours in high heels. On this particular night, Lacey is having a difficult time with a group of men that are looking for her brother, since he stiffed their bookie. Now they say she has to work for them as a prostitute to pay his debt. Théo, who was nearby heard all this transpiring and came to her rescue. If things couldn’t get any worse, she gets fired since those goons insisted she had stolen money from them. Now that they are threatening her, Lacey knows she needs to get out of dodge. When Théo invites Lacey to come with him to LA till her brother gets his act together, she thinks he’s crazy, but then it got crazier. He proposes that they get married! This is another hit for Kelly Jamieson! There is nothing she can’t write! I received a copy of this ARC in exchange for an honest review.

OMG This series is going to be so, so good. I can’t wait for the next story in this series. Getting to meet all the Wynn Family was quite the treat. You know what they say. That there is a thin line between love and hate. Well get ready to see the drama and how accurate that statement is, in this larger than life family. Théo Wynn has just accepted a position as General Manager of the California Condors Ice Hockey Team. His whole life he had wanted to play in the NHL and he did, until a injury ended his career. But all his life Théo also had a mind for numbers. So he took his mind for numbers and applied his knowledge of hockey and started a hockey analytic business coast to coast. Now he just needs to prove his worth to his family. So with his last night in Vegas he finds himself at Silk, a high end cocktail lounge where he becomes a knight to a damsel in distress. Lacey Olson has never been so desperate. Her twin brother is missing along with the money in her bank account. Her twin brother Chris has a gambling problem, and she is sick and tired of enabling him. When she is confronted by two men that want her to payoff her brother’s debt at her high-end waitress job, she knows she needs to get out of Vegas and let her brother clean up his own mess for once. So, when a hot, stranger comes to her rescue after she gets fired, she can’t believe what the stranger is offering. And before the night is through, she is married to him and heading to California. I loved that the series started with Theo and Lacey’s story. These two have instant chemistry and so much in common. But they are also so open and honest with each other. Their conversation and relationship is heartwarming, sexy and fun. You can’t help but fall for them and root for their HEA! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Play to Win is the first book to a new hockey series by Kelly Jamieson. The Wynn family is pretty large and almost all of them are involved with the hockey world in some way. The family dynamic is pretty rocky with the Grandfather owning one hockey team and the father of our hero owning another. Family members are suing each other, step parents are accused of gold digging, petty jealousy driving others. The Wynn family will definitely keep things interesting in this series. This first book focuses on Theo Wynn. He had a very short career as a hockey player until an injury crushed those dreams. His intellect that he was bullied for as a kid will be the key to keep him in the hockey world. Making a risky move, he accepts his grandfather's job proposal to manage his hockey team at the risk of his father's anger. This will be the key to him showing his family what he can really do with that intellect mind of his. The night before Theo leaves Las Vegas, he rescues the waitress at the club. Lacey is being harassed by some thugs after her for her brothers gambling debt. There is just something about Lacey that has him doing things he never would, like marrying her and taking her with him to California to prove to his family that he doesn't care that his brother stole his girlfriend. What starts out as a fake marriage soon turns into more but Theo and Lacey are both pretty jaded about life. They struggle with trying to fight their attraction and keeping things platonic. They both are starting new lives and think they can only depend on themselves. This book is seeing that struggle and how they overcome all the past hurt and take the risks to their heart to find happiness in each other. You meet so many of the Wynn family and I"m already invested in seeing them set aside the anger and hurt. Lacey was one step in that direction. She brought a couple of these family members closer together. I look forward to more of their story in the upcoming series.
