Excellent read, a real page turner!

I really liked how this series began with a strong cast of characters and some great development. However, as I read the books I was upset at how Persephone and Raithe were portrayed. I know this has to be connected to the Riyria series, which I enjoyed, but I think that Persephone became detestable in this book especially and Nyphron was a pain to read about, his character is just so arrogant yet he still is rewarded time and time again. Raithe especially was portrayed horribly. He began as one of the more entertaining characters I have read about in a while, and was relegated to a secondary, and eventually tertiary role and beaten down until he is eventually useless. Persephone and him were a great team and again, I realize the need to connect this to Novron and Riyria, but her transformation and callousness were despicable and irritating. I finished this book, but will not be buying the next one as this book completely turned me off of the series. Even Suri, Brin, Tesh, and Moya couldn’t keep me reading through Nyphron and Persephone’s BS. Very disappointed in this book and what could have been an even better series than Riyria.

I have really enjoyed watching the character development through this series, and none more so than in this latest installment of the series (book 4 is due out soon as of the time of this review). The action really picks up in this book as well, along with several instances where you can really feel the pain of some of the characters (beware of teary eyes!). Totally recommend this book and the series!

This book is wonderful!!! Complex characters with intricate, intersecting plots. Great follow-through from the previous book with a dynamic and emotional series of new twists and turns that will NOT disappoint. Can’t wait for the next one!!!
