Book Synopsis

Begin the bestselling The Return of the Elves series with Soulbound, where half-blood elf Arlyn travels through the portal to confront her elven father, unleashing a plot that could touch not just the elven world but modern Earth, too.

"Bethany Adams' exquisite talent intertwines magic and love with a fantasy world of many different fae cultures." ~Bookbub Review

A deathbed promise

Arlyn’s quest is simple: Find her father and let him know her mother is dead. After all, Arlyn had promised her mother she’d go. The problem? Her father's people are myths and legends, and he doesn't even live on Earth. But despite a long journey through the mysterious mists of the Veil, finding him turns out to be the easy part.

A dream long-buried

After five hundred years, Kai has given up on finding his soulbonded. So when he stumbles across Arlyn after returning from his latest mission and recognizes her as his mate, Kai starts their bond in haste. But he never could have imagined that his bonded is his best friend’s newfound daughter. Whoops.

A hidden conspiracy sparked to life

Though the sight of Kai makes Arlyn’s heart pound, she isn’t sure she can forgive him for starting their bond without her permission. But her love life is the least of her problems. Her father is an elf lord, and his sudden acknowledgment of a half-human heir reignites the same conspiracy that took him away from her mother in the first place. Now Arlyn and her family must face iron wielding assassins, bigotry, and her newly awakened magical abilities if they hope to come through in one piece.

Arlyn thought she would return to Earth after meeting her father. Now she must fight to save the family she never knew she wanted.

  • Slow at the end

Started out well but really seemed to drag in middle to end. Anticlimactic— other than that everyone gets stabbed injured at the end for some reason. Iron allergy thing seems random and not explained that I can recall.

I wanted something different to read. Good details, good character development. Definitely worth the read.

I loved each one. Beautifully written, kept me enthralled in each one. I will probably read them again.

Although the romance is decided upon their meeting, there are parts of this story I enjoyed: the family bonds, the snarky friendships. But it doesn’t resolve much of anything which is why I took one star. I like Alyna but her insecurity felt like a crutch more than a true character flaw. The throwaway line at the end irritated me even more. I won’t be reading on in the series.
  • Fantastic fantasy book

Good read. Excellent entertainment with lovely characters and a surprise twist that seems hard to believe. I look forward to the next book in this series.
  • Good start to Great Series?

I’ve read a few other reviews of Soulbound. Some seemed to want more action or more descriptive sex scenes. (I say more action maybe but the more descriptive and frequent the sex scenes, the more likely I am to trash the book!) I found the story to be a great introduction to the Elven World. Intense and intriguing enough to make me want more!
  • Way too bloated. I couldn’t stay interested.

I’m about half-way through and I’m quitting. The hero character has spent most of the book either in a coma or too weak to stand on his own. So it’s been hundreds of pages of character building for the heroine and he father. Very little action or progression. I’ve been skimming past pages and finding that I missed nothing. With editing, this might be a good story. As it is, chapter upon chapter is spent talking about language, clothes, family history, etc. It’s too slow paced for me.
  • Okay…okay!

Definitely not the most exciting book I’ve ever read. In fact, in a few places it really felt like it was dragging but, I liked the story and enjoyed the world overall. Maybe not enough to read the whole series though.

Didn’t love it, didn’t hate it. Spotted some punctuation errors. This book attempts to explore complex family dynamics and world building and skims over various other social issues. The author conveniently overuses magic to rush Arlyn’s adjustment to Moranaia, denying her a lot of real character development, and there was overall too much gasping and breaths caught. Even though she had no initial plans to stay, Arlyn makes no reference to the life she would be returning to after she fulfilled Aimee’s request. At the start of the book Lyr says polyamory is acceptable to elves, but the plot is driven by monogamous soulbound relationships and infidelity. When Selia and Lyr discuss lineage, they’re grateful to Kai for forcing the bond despite the fact that up until this point everyone was preaching that it is and should be Arlyn’s choice, a choice she hadn’t made yet. I never buy into the “love in a week” romances and the sex was cringey.
