This story follows the same formula the author has been using for other books in the series but that’s actually good because it works well for her. Ford and Reagan have liked each other for a while but neither one of them has made their feelings known so when Reagan gets attacked by a stalker, it was kind of a nice surprise for her to find out he liked her as much as she liked him. The suspense was on point but the romance didn’t do much for me, or rather it felt more of a HFN as opposed to a HEA. Perhaps it was because I didn’t feel the main characters didn’t have much depth at the beginning and when they finally connected it was almost the end of the story. A nice surprise though was the romantic sub-story of bombshell Ruby and scarred (both inside and out) Montez. I think their storyline made up for what was missing on the main couple. Another thing that I’ve always liked about this series is the interaction of the whole team with the main characters, which was fleshed out perfectly and it didn’t leave me feeling lost. This story is the 12th installment in the series however it can be read as a standalone. 3.5 stars

Secret Obsession is the 12th book in the Red Stone Security Series. This romantic suspense series can be read as stand-alone books and/or out of order, but I feel that you get a greater understanding of the characters and “extra players” if you have read the entire series. But, again, you do not need to read the entire series to enjoy any of the Red Stone Security Books. Secret Obsession lives up to its title. Raegan Taylor, moves to Miami from a farm in the country to work at her uncle’s security firm (Red Stone). She is trusting, hasn’t seen much of the world and is a little bit naive. In the course of her work she meets Ford Burke, a cop and a friend of her cousins. She has developed a “crush” on Ford but he doesn’t seem to know that she exists. As Raegan goes about her life, meeting with friends working and just living day to day, a series of “accidents” seem to occur. She is out at a club with friends and someone slips her a date rape drug. She is rescued by Ford, who just happens to be there meeting with a friend. After this occurs the feelings that Ford has for her but has kept hidden begin to show. Ford, however, has a past that has left him wary of any kind of commitment or relationship. As the incidents with Raegan’s stalker escalate, Ford must decide whether he is going to let his past ruin his present and any chance he has with Raegan. Overall the book was well written. The plot moved along and the characters were well developed and likeable. The suspense was there and the stalker was not who you expected but was definitely believable in the way he interjected himself into Reagan’s life, while still fading into the background. I was provided with a gift copy of this book by the author for an honest review. I also purchased the book.
