Peter Christen Asbjørnsen was a writer and scholar, born in Norwegian Christiana (now Oslo). His name is closely connected with the name of Jørgen Moe, his close childhood friend, with whom Asbjørnsen collected Norwegian folktales.
The Shopboy and His Cheese and Peik, translated into English by G. W. Dasent, were first published in 1874 as a part of the second series of popular Norwegian tales, Tales from the Fjeld.
