Book Synopsis

Told with Jane Green's keen eye for detailing the emotional landscape of the heart, Summer Secrets is at once a compelling drama and a beautifully rendered portrait of relationships, betrayals, and forgiveness; about accepting the things we cannot change, finding the courage to change the things we can, and being strong enough to weather the storms.

When a shocking family secret is revealed, twenty-something journalist Cat Coombs finds herself falling into a dark spiral. Wild, glamorous nights out in London and raging hangovers the next day become her norm, leading to a terrible mistake one night while visiting family in America, on the island of Nantucket. It's a mistake for which she can't forgive herself. When she returns home, she confronts the unavoidable reality of her life and knows it's time to grow up. But she doesn't know if she'll ever be able to earn the forgiveness of the people she hurt.

As the years pass, Cat grows into her forties, a struggling single mother, coping with a new-found sobriety and determined to finally make amends. Traveling back to her past, to the family she left behind on Nantucket all those years ago, she may be able to earn their forgiveness, but in doing so she may risk losing the very people she loves the most.

"Gripping and powerful."-Emily Giffin

At first I wasn’t sure I was going to like this book, but the more I read, the more I resonated. I’m really glad I read this book start to finish. This probably sounds bad, but I honestly sat and read some of this book while sitting in a bar. Losing myself in this book was definitely much needed.

It’s a book about everything and absolutely nothing at the same time - with no character or relationship development. Don’t waste the money!

I read this book in one weekend! The main character was well-developed and you really begin to feel/root for her. Get this book - you will not be disappointed!

Love Jane Green but this was awful. Cliche and poorly written. Didn't even bother finishing the book. Not worth it.

Great book to be able to not put down. I got my money's worth. However, I do not think money was the issue for Jane. Jason was. I have two 1/2 sisters. I met them when not sober. In Colorado. Nothing happened like your happening...but a ton of jealousy and wierdness was in the air. WOW. Oh, my sister's names are Julie and Jill. Pouring your heart to us was a brave and courageous decision. Love you, Jane Alice

I love Jane Green! Her books are always so good. This one was a little different for me as it pretty much hit pretty close to home. As a matter of fact it was a little difficult for me to read this one. Because I saw myself in Cat, WAY too many coincidences. The author hit it spot on with this story which is truly a sad one. I really felt for the character. I think a lot of people will find this hitting close to home and for those it doesn't, it is still a very good read and may shed some light for some or even open some people's eyes. I truly recommend this book whether your an alcoholic or not, it is a good story that deals with much more than just alcoholism. The story also deals with adultery, unhappy marriages, friendships and Cat learning she has a whole other family across the pond. Thank you St. Martin's Press and Net Galley for allowing me to read this very encouraging and entertaining story.

This book was fantastic! Completely enthralling from the beginning until the very last page. Couldn't put it down. Jane Green paints a lovely picture of beautiful Nantucket and wonderfully tells a story of a mother suffering from alcoholism and the many phases of life she went through to become the loving wonderful woman she always was! Beautiful story about life, the lessons we learn, and the beauty of it all. This one hit close to home.
