Book Synopsis

"Evolution is one of the most powerful and important ideas ever developed in the history of science. Every question it raises leads to new answers, new discoveries, and new smarter questions. The science of evolution is as expansive as nature itself. It is also the most meaningful creation story that humans have ever found."—Bill Nye

Sparked by a controversial debate in February 2014, Bill Nye has set off on an energetic campaign to spread awareness of evolution and the powerful way it shapes our lives. In Undeniable: Evolution and the Science of Creation, he explains why race does not really exist; evaluates the true promise and peril of genetically modified food; reveals how new species are born, in a dog kennel and in a London subway; takes a stroll through 4.5 billion years of time; and explores the new search for alien life, including aliens right here on Earth.

With infectious enthusiasm, Bill Nye shows that evolution is much more than a rebuttal to creationism; it is an essential way to understand how nature works—and to change the world. It might also help you get a date on a Saturday night.

  • OMG Must read

I’m giving this book to everybody I know. This is true facts supported by actual data, it makes me love science even more. Can firmly say, by reading this book I have learned new things I otherwise might not have ever known, I am smarter, my mind is more open to receive new knowledge. In no way has my firm belief in my religion been threatened by factual data. But it has brought me much closer to the actual origin of life, and not just what I’ve been told to believe but what is true and proven.

Having read some other reviews, I would say that there are those who fear the truth of science so badly that they debunk it only to honor their time-established mythologies. But that same science is wonderful when its spin-offs make life easier or it develops medicines that prolong their lives. I would add that if they want to be taken half seriously, they should use proper diction and spell words correctly. As to other comments, yes, if you want in-depth forays into the topics Bill covers, you should read several books devoted to the topics at hand, but it you want to read a reasoned, balanced explanation why science—now threatened by a bunch of deniers and conspiracy junkies—is important to both the preservation of our society and to the future of our world, this is a worthwhile read.

  • A light in the dark

I love reading books like this. They offer scientific fact to dispel all the very old myths about the universe. A long time ago, when man couldn't answer questions, he made up answers based on supernatural phenomenon. But for a long time now, man has been discovering the truths of the universe and men like Bill Nye bring it to the masses. Science is truth. And it is always necessary to bring this truth to people, to dispel the myths and ridiculous ideas religion has dragged throughout the ages. Thank you, Mr. Nye for continuing to inform people of the universe, to someday lay to rest all the old and fallacious ideas of creationism. Time for those ideas to be layed to rest.
  • Meh

I am a big fan of Bill Nye and I love listening to him on Star Talk when he is a guest. I was also very impressed at his debate with Ken Hamm. I grew up watching his science show and whenever he has something to say, I shut up and listen. This book, however, I do not believe was a good move on his part. Yes he does make some good points, but most of it is written in a way that doesn't do it for me. It feels rushed, like he just went on a rant one weekend and came up with enough words for a book. It doesn't read like a well thought out and informative book. I am already a believer in evolution and I am not finding anything new in this book that comes as a real shocker. Furthermore as a former Christian, the audience he is trying to reach in this book probably just scoffed and put it down. Yes it would talk some sense into them, but their minds were made up long ago. I feel like the book doesn't speak to this group, and it is falling on deaf ears. If this book were aired as a TV special or something it would be much more effective in my opinion. Instead we have a book that feels quickly written to put a group of people in their place, except those people aren't listening.
