Book Synopsis

From Raina Telgemeier, the #1 New York Times bestselling, multiple Eisner Award-winning author of Smile and Sisters!Callie loves theater. And while she would totally try out for her middle school's production of Moon over Mississippi, she can't really sing. Instead she's the set designer for the drama department's stage crew, and this year she's determined to create a set worthy of Broadway on a middle-school budget. But how can she, when she doesn't know much about carpentry, ticket sales are down, and the crew members are having trouble working together? Not to mention the onstage AND offstage drama that occurs once the actors are chosen. And when two cute brothers enter the picture, things get even crazier!

Listen, this book was my first introduction to LGBT+ people in books, and it doesn’t really make a huge deal out of it. It treats gay crushes the same way it treats straight crushes. As a member of the LGBT community, this book helped me be a little more proud of who I was as a 12 year old just figuring my sexuality out. It helped me understand that your sexuality is okay, and it normalized this concept for me ! Edit- Okay I read the book again, and the fact their in 7th grade kinda shocked me. Not with the lgbt thing but with the amount of kissing. It’s just not really realistic. 8th or 9th grade would be more realistic but 7th?! Wow

I’m support LGBTQ+, cause I am it. Now I know some people don’t like gays. That’s okay it’s your opinion. But maybe don’t be so harsh with it. There might be some others who are this and might get offended. You don’t have to listen to me that okay. It your opinion and that okay as well. P.s be mindful abt other plz 😊 — Random teen ✨🤣✨🤗

y'all are idiots. gay people exist. get over it and stop crying 😂 this book is completely appropriate. perfect for little girls who like drama or theatre. there is nothing inappropriate or bad about gays. if gay couples cannot kiss in front of children, then straight couples can't either. if you can't say 'gay' in front of children, you can't say 'straight' either. or 'kiss' or 'love' or 'lips' 😕

I really liked the book. One thing I suggest is that make sure 11 and older kids are reading this book because it may talk about stuff that 9 and younger should be reading. Other than that I really loved and liked the book😁
