Book Synopsis

Fall under the spell of Wake—the first book in an achingly beautiful new series by celebrated author Amanda Hocking—and lose yourself to the Watersong.

Gorgeous. Fearless. Dangerous. They're the kind of girls you envy; the kind of girls you want to hate. Strangers in town for the summer, Penn, Lexi and Thea have caught everyone's attention—but it’s Gemma who’s attracted theirs.  She’s the one they’ve chosen to be part of their group.

Gemma seems to have it all—she’s carefree, pretty, and falling in love with Alex, the boy next door.  He’s always been just a friend, but this summer they’ve taken their relationship to the next level, and now there’s no going back.  Then one night, Gemma’s ordinary life changes forever.  She’s taking a late night swim under the stars when she finds Penn, Lexi and Thea partying on the cove.  They invite her to join them, and the next morning she wakes up on the beach feeling groggy and sick, knowing something is different.

Suddenly Gemma is stronger, faster, and more beautiful than ever. But her new powers come with a terrifying price.  And as she uncovers the truth, she’s is forced to choose between staying with those she loves—or entering a new world brimming with dark hungers and unimaginable secrets.

It didn't really keep my interest that much. I mean, I love Hocking and her work, but towards the end, and if it wasn't this specific book, then it was one of the others in this series, I got so bored of it, I couldn't finish. I mean, when you're a writer and you write A LOT of books and different series, you will have that one series that isn't as good as some of your other work. I should know, as I am also a book writer.

I've read Amanda Hocking's other stories and I can't say enough good and exciting things about them! When I originally checked this book out, I was thrilled to be reading another one of her stories. I was ready to dig right in. Little did I know the long, long, loooooong intro which didn't tell me anything about what the story was going to be about. Yes, I read the short summary but from reading the beginning (maybe the first 50 pages) I had no clue how on earth this could be related to what the summary said. Even after finishing the book, which was a struggle at some parts over others, I had a confused idea about who the story was actually about, what the point was, and how anyone would be interested in a scattered boring story? I had even checked out Lullaby which is the next book in the series because I thought I'd read this one too fast from being extremely good... What a let down. It depressed me more than anything! I will not be reading Lullaby and hope readers seek help after having to scarf down the emotional pitfall and morbidness to this book.

This book is absolutely amazing. It is the start of my favorite series, the water song series. I would recommend reading forgotten lyrics before you read wake because it really introduces you to the whole story. Once you start reading this book you won't want to stop!!!!! That's how amazing it is.

I enjoyed the book once I got a hang on the writing style which at first started by jumping around a lot without significant warning who was talking. Overall it was a good story.

After half way through the book I realized how cheesy and predictable it was. I pretty much know how it'll end. I think that this would be a great book for a fourth grader/8 or 9 year old.

I really enjoyed this book and the second one! The third one should come out soon!! I hope... If you are into supernatural books like this you might also like “hush, hush" by Becca Fitzpatrick. That one of the best series I have read!!!!!!
