This book is typical Koontz in that it was scary, had dogs as a critical part of the story but he added a lot of his religious insite in the final chapter that made it exceptional for me. TS Elliot quotes were interesting as well.

Of this one. Not sure why the formatting of this book puts double spaces between the paragraphs but it’s most difficult to read. It’s more like stand alone thoughts—overly metaphoric even for Koontz (there is no modulation to the descriptive imagery, just over-done).Could not finish this story. Sorry for poor review. Characters are completely flat and unreachable.
  • One of Koontz’s creepiest in years!

Dean Koontz doesn’t think of himself as a horror novelist. As a fan of both suspense novels and horror novels, I definitely see him as an author of both. The Taking is among his best! Extremely creepy and terrifying, overwhelmingly suspenseful, sometimes very funny, this exciting shocker features all of the ingredients of Koontz’s best work, including two likable protagonists and a strong message about morality. It even includes a VERY surprising ending, one that exudes hope in an unexpectedly spiritual way! Enjoy!

beautifully written, the words compose images that take the reader to a different world. the plot is fascinating, but only a backdrop for the words.

I've read a few of koontz's books and generally found them entertaining. I had to struggle to get through the this one, though. I consider myself to be pretty well read with a decent vocabulary, but I sometimes felt like I should have a dictionary handy while reading it. Much of the story details were unnecessary. An allegory for the biblical flood and cleansing could have been much more tersely written. No real need for all the fungi, creatures, molds, and organic space vehicles: It rained for a long time, flooded everything, few survivors, end of story. Plus there was no explanation as to why the ETs just left and returned the Earth to its normal state. It just ended.

This work has inspired me so much. He thinks outside the box in such a way that you find yourself never watching TV....again!

I love Koontz's books, but I had a hard time buying this one - the story - and I was totally disappointed with the ending. I was hoping for something that would "make" the book and my time worthwhile. I didn't get it. It still entertains though.....it's Dean Koontz.

Read this book in three days. One day I had called in sick to work because I just had to find out what happens. The ending blew my mind. I literally had brain matter hanging out one ear ;)
