I was in fifth grade, entering sixth right now. I read this book in school for fifth grade. What this book is about is where there is this city in a “world of darkness” and the city is “the only light”. I’ll try not to spoil anything, but this book is by far not worth eight dollars. The writing isn’t exactly great. It just doesn’t really feel . . . OK, I’ll start over. The plot I put up may make it sound cool, but this book doesn’t deserve to be a “modern classic”. It is about where there are two twelve-year old citizens named Doon and Lina who are living in a run-down Ember that is two hundred years old. They’re desperate to find an egress out of Ember and into another city. Still sounds cool? Well, the writing isn’t very good as I already said. The book’s too short and it just . . . well, it’s simply not good

What a great read! I had read a bit of chapter six with a fourth grade class last month and became hooked, I then downloaded an iPad version. There is suspense, drama, risk, excitement, wonder, fear, you name it, the book is filled with youthful adventure. This book comes highly recommended for upper elementary or lower middle school students.

I read this book in school and I loved it! Lina and Doon are great protagonists! This is a thrilling, suspenseful and apocalyptic story of saving a human race. The end is a cliff hanger...😐
