Lots of twists and surprises! So many characters and relations to follow but will keep the readers interest which grows more as the story pulls one deeper in.

The story is beautifully written. However, there is unecessary chapters that prolongue the story and bore me to death. There is too much that is going on and the story is not satisfying. Ironic because the novel is written in homage to storytelling. I made it to the end, but it took me so long to read because of its length. Wouldn’t suggest buying, maybe try borrowing from the library if you think it’s worth it.

This book is insanely captivating and inspiring. It renewed my love for the power of simple storytelling. Characters are well created and the story flows just like a river. Highly recommend!

Loved this book. It’s the first time I’ve read Diane Setterfield and now I want more. The language she uses to describe water and the way in which she be the tale was so enjoyable. I’m a fan!!

Made it to page 300, gave up. Weirdly written, and as badly as I wanted to find out what happened I just couldn’t go on. Wasn’t my cup of tea.

I’ve read two books by this author and enjoyed them both. They won’t change your life, but they will hook you. This book is a fun, page-turning fairytale, but more magical realism than fantasy. I like it!
  • The writing is beautiful.

In fact, it doesn’t seem like writing at all, but like listening to a storyteller - as, of course the author is. Heavy in symbolic and deep in ideas, this book explores a lot of themes. One I especially liked, is the connection between myth and history. Characters real, interesting, and complex. But I did not like the ending. It was too convoluted.
