Book Synopsis

The enchanting and bloodthirsty sequel to the New York Times bestselling novel The Cruel Prince.
You must be strong enough to strike and strike and strike again without tiring.
The first lesson is to make yourself strong.
After the jaw-dropping revelation that Oak is the heir to Faerie, Jude must keep her brother safe. To do so, she has bound the wicked king, Cardan, to her, and made herself the power behind the throne. Navigating the constantly shifting political alliances of Faerie would be difficult enough if Cardan were easy to control. But he does everything in his power to humiliate and undermine her even as his fascination with her remains undiminished.
When it becomes all too clear that someone close to Jude means to betray her, threatening her own life and the lives of everyone she loves, Jude must uncover the traitor and fight her own complicated feelings for Cardan to maintain control as a mortal in a Faerie world.

Not a lot if people would consider the second book in this series the best. Of course, The Cruel Prince is considered the best in the series. But I truly found The Wicked King being my favorite! All the books in the series had such amazing writing youā€™d fall in love. But The Wicked King was probably on another level. With the cliffhanger in The Cruel Prince, this book was so much more enjoyable. The plot was everything!!! I loved the surprise in the end and all the crazy events happening in the end it caught me by surprise and I loved it. A lot of people would say that with all these things being thrown at you by surprise causes the book to be ā€˜rushedā€™, I personally think that with all these itā€™s supposed to surprise the reader. šŸšØSPOILERSšŸšØ Iā€™m not completely sure if this happened in The Queen of Nothing or The Wicked King (be aware Iā€™m writing this review months after reading the series) but oh well, when The Ghost was like ā€œI served Prince Dain not youā€ I DIED LIKE OMGGGGG I THOUGHT THIS GUY WAS SO COOL WHAT AND HE DOES THING HELP ME I honestly loved how that popped up, its like a ā€œWeā€™re chill while giving highly dangerous/confidential information.ā€ Obsessed! Once again forgive me if this is in The Queen of Nothing and not this book, but Taryn is the most annoying person ever Iā€™m not gonna even bother using caps for her. I was so close to throwing a chair at her and forcing Addison Rae to defeat Vecna for her. SPOILERS FREE Okay, running away from all of that, this book was overall amazing and one of my bess reads, if youā€™re considering continuing the series donā€™t even consider just read this book!!!!! Trust me it might end up being your favorite in the series. Thank you Holly Black for creating such an amazing trilogy and characters that will remain rent free in my heart P.S. Donā€™t listen to the bad reviews (theyā€™re lying)šŸ˜‰
  • Judeā€™s Narrating is Monotonous

I liked The Cruel Prince a lot! I enjoyed Judeā€™s story, she was witty even in between dialogues. I even grew to like Cardan. Pacing of the story was good. But in The Wicked King I found myself losing connection with most of the characters, and the story. Jude isnā€™t funny or relatable anymore. Sheā€™s a bratty, selfish, power hungry kid. Cardan lacks personality. Actually all the characters in the story have less color. Except for Roach. I liked him. But the worst part is Judeā€™s thoughts in-between dialogue. Itā€™s not realistic, and itā€™s repetitive, as if the reader needs to be reminded of the plot every other page. There are a few good pages, like the flashback scene in the beginning, but for the most part, unlike book 1, book 2 didnā€™t resonate. Hoping I get different feels in the next books.
  • Unwordable. I can't explain.
