Book Synopsis

A New York Times bestseller!

#1 New York Times bestselling author Sherrilyn Kenyon brings us back to the astonishing world of the Dark-Hunters in Stygian, with a hero misunderstood by many…but most of all by himself.

Born before man recorded time, I lived for thousands of years believing myself to be something I’m not.

Someone I’m not.

Lied to and betrayed by gods, Daimons and Dark-Hunters, I’ve struggled to find my way in a world where I’ve been cursed since the moment I was prematurely ripped from my mother and planted into the womb of an innocent woman who thought me her son.

Trained as a slayer and predator, I learned to fit in and stay low. To become a tool for evil. Until I was sent to kill the one woman I couldn’t. My hesitation cost her her life.

Or so I thought. In an act of betrayal that makes all the others pale in comparison, I’ve learned that this world is an illusion and that my Phoebe still lives.

Now I will have to travel into the very pits of Hades to try and save her, even as everyone around me attempts to steal what little soul I have left. There’s only one person at my back and I’m not sure I can trust her either, for she was born of an enemy race. Yet sometimes the road to redemption is one that singes us to our very core. And if I fail to find the answers I need to save Phoebe, more than just my wife will die.

We will lose the world. Both human and Daimon.

I really enjoyed this book. It complimented Acheron. There’s always two or more ways of looking at the same thing. This brought a deeper understanding to his life. Loved it!

I probably shouldn’t be writing this review because I didn’t even finish the book. But when I’ve basically read the entire freaking book already because she has copied and pasted CHAPTERS from past stories again, you can’t really blame me. I have tried to stay loyal to this series and finish it out because it started out so strong. I fell in love with the characters, the story line, everything. But the last story I truly enjoyed in this series was Stryker’s. Every single story since has dealt so much with the past that only a few chapters get dedicated to the present. I get it, these characters need back stories. A few chapters would suffice. But no, we have to give their past 1/2 of the book, then add in another 1/4 that’s been copied and pasted from past stories, and then we’ll go ahead and dedicate the last 100 pages to the present. I think I’d be more understanding if she didn’t copy and paste. I’m sorry, but that’s just lazy writing. And because I’ve read the whole series, I KNOW she’s a way better writer than that. Sad to say it, but this is the last book I’ll be reading in the series.

I’m very disappointed because I just reread almost all the dark hunter series, Acheron and Styxx in this book. Ms. Kenyon can sure do better.

Urian is over 11,000 years old. During his long life he has never felt truly like he belonged. Living as a Daimon he has lost everyone he ever loved. Now with old enemies becoming new allies it is a whole new world. Will he finally find the one place he feels at home? Getting more insight into the life of the apollites was very interesting. I enjoyed the book, though it wasn’t one of my favorites. I would have liked to read more from the present.

With what I paid for this book I am asking fir refund, I expected a new story, but what I got is a 1300 page repeat and contradictions of already read stories.

I have read and loved all of the Dark Hunter novels. Except this one. Seriously disappointing and a waste of money. The storyline was like trying to follow a toddler around who’s at ADHD Level 11. Vital scenes after serious build-ups appear to be completely erased. It just jumps to the aftermath - which is seriously lacking too. I can’t believe I waited and paid for this. It’s enough to make me think I got some rough draft B flick version of the book.

It’s like Kenyon isn’t writing the books anymore. Several of the last ones are pieced together by large sections of her earlier books. Did they think true fans wouldn’t notice? Such a huge let down especially with such a huge character as Urian.
  • Fantastic as always

Great read, if a little long. Made me want to start at the beginning all over again. Gave me an appreciation for Uriah that i didn’t have before, as well as the complicated bloodlines that permeate Kenyon’s Dark-Hunter series. Can’t wait for the next one.
